Making New Zealand's Food Famous

Project 2016-08-03 12:48:03 +1200

Whiria te tangata. Weave the people together.

Never before has such a diverse & significant group of New Zealand food people come together to rasie funds to make New Zealand's food famous. We want to inspire and empower New Zealand people by creating a strong sense of pride and respect for our natural resources. We want to put New Zealand's food on the world map.

The money raised here will allow us to employ someone on a part time basis to keep this movement going. Without this money there is no-one who has the time away from their own business to keep things moving forward. This person will keep and connect everyone together on this platform, help establish a strategic plan, they will organise events and communicate our message to the world.

ConversatioNZ was founded in 2015 by Roots Restaurant (NZ Restaurant of the Year 2015/16) chef & owner Giulio Sturla.

Above: Giulio Sturla with NZ Chef  & ConversatioNZ supporter Al Brown.

ConversatioNZ is a Movement initiated by chefs, media, producers and other people in the food industry with the aim of highlighting the quality and vast array of edible resources available in New Zealand.

It involves harnessing both traditional and innovative forms of knowledge (matauranga) drawn from the entire community of people (tangata) who gather, grow, raise, prepare and work with the gifts of the land (whenua) and the sea (moana).

The movement seeks to provide a forum to encourage and enable collaboration between all levels of the culinary chain and move towards more sustainable food systems.

We would like to see culinary tourism become much more significant in New Zealand, so we can have the opportunity to show our food and our people to the world. ConversatioNZ will provide the platform from which to do that.

Our media partner for this national movement is Cuisine Magazine.

Just some of the people involved in this movement (and we'd always welcome more):

  • Lauraine Jacobs - Food Editor, The NZ Listener
  • Tony Stewart - Clooneys Restaurant, Auckland

We did it!

15/09/2016 at 10:47 AM

Hey everyone.

We did it! No words to say thank you enough. You're all legends!

I just wanted to let our pledgers know first that Luxury Lodges of New Zealand have increased their reward to two nights in a lodge with the full dinner and breakfast experience, anywhere in New Zealand. That's $4000 value for only a $2000 pledge. Spread the word!

There are still plenty of other rewards left as well until our campaign finishes midnight Friday.

Thanks again, look forward to being in touch when I've got all your details.

Angela
