Build A Bike, Foster A Smile!

About the ‘Build a Bike, Foster a Smile’ initiative

We are a year 11 class from Auckland, New Zealand. As as part of our school leadership program we are working to support Fostering Kids New Zealand to provide bikes for foster children. We want to raise money to buy parts and equipment to build 3 new bikes which we will assemble and deliver to the foster children later in the year. We are a caring group of girls who are passionate about this cause and want to do what we can to support and encourage kids and their foster families.

About Fostering kids NZ

Fostering Kids New Zealand is a New Zealand run organisation, committed to providing safe homes for children. Fostering Kids New Zealand dedicates a lot of time and hard work towards helping these children, while every case is different, it’s not unusual for foster children to have to deal with tough times. We hope that by providing them with brand new bikes, we will be able to foster a smile and make their day!

We are raising money for these bikes with the hope that our involvement with the Fostering Kids NZ community will help bring light to all of the wonderful things that foster parents do to cause a positive change in the lives of the foster children.

How are we trying to help?

We believe that owning and riding a bike is an important milestone in a child’s life. For most Kiwi kids, it is an considered a rite of passage to learn to ride and we hope to be able to ensure these children gain the same sense of achievement and independence. Receiving a brand new bike will be a very enjoyable experience for the whole family.

The bikes will not only provide a sense of freedom and responsibility, but will also provide a fun and challenging experience for the whole family.
