About

My Dad's Boy @ BATS

Project 2016-05-10 13:01:43 +1200

A young man writes a play about his father, trying to figure him out. Is he a good dad? A bad one? Does he even know there’s a difference? When he finds out his girlfriend is expecting though, the writer must face the prospect of fatherhood himself.

My Dad's Boy is a hilarious exploration of family relationships. Witness the all-too-familiar figures of children who are quick to blame and slow to forgive, and reluctant parents struggling with their duties. Come and relive the stage of life when you became your own person, and not just your parents’ child.

The play has already received a lot of critical acclaim. It was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ at both the 2016 Adam NZ Play Award and the 2016 Playwrights b4 25 competition. It is the 2016 winner of the international playwriting competition for the Against the Grain Festival in Buffalo, New York.

We need your pledges to help us make this piece of work. We are looking to tour this show and we've already had lots of interest from theatres around New Zealand. Before this happens, however, we need to put it all together. Your pledges will cover our set, props, costume, lighting, sound and other things we can't quite do on a shoestring budget. We are really looking forward to sharing this work with you and the rest of New Zealand and just need a bit of help getting off the ground.

If you aren't able to help us out, maybe give your Dad a ring? Or your Mum. Give them a ring anyway. Invite them to the show! It's definitely their cup of tea.
