..your all too kind

..thankyou, massive thankyou everyone,

Appreciate the variety and spread of people who got involved, and all the support, wasn't expecting so much kindness- I'll do my best to transfer it all to those I meet who need it the most.

As I've now left Taranaki, and spending the night in Auckland Airport before leaving tommorow morning, it's gonna be prety hard for me to post the rewards out, esspecialy as I wont be supplied with the details for another three day's. So once I receive them all I'll co-ordinate posting out what I can from afar, though obviously with custom Rewards like the 'Fashion Tee/Longsleeve' the 'StickerStack' and 'The Loot' these will be done when I return in August, appologies for the wait. I hope it's ok.

Again, chur, massive thanks.

kindest regards

Damin

..a bit more of a yarn..

23/05/2016 at 9:03 PM

..kia ora, My name is Damin.

The existance of this project, a project to fund something when there's so many more derserving causes, exists only out of potential. It's a strugle to ask as personaly feel if you have spare money, which no one realy does, it should go to Sea Shepard, or NZSA, or to you taking a day off work and spending it picking up rubish, or any local cause you can find. Regardless, here's me asking, and maby you'll do both.

I've managed to become and maintain a way to survive as a full time aritist, survival is a variable level of perspective, and legaly classified I am more often homeless than not, though this is an enabling self decision that lets my work be prioritsed, and although not the reason to launch this project, felt it was relevant to share as it is linked to the feild of persued study

HISTORY

In April last year I took all the funds I had and more to move to Oakland California for a 2 month self funded Artist Residency. Oakland was somehwere I felt would be real, somewhere where all the protest and staunchness Milarky had been directing artworks about would exist in a functioning state. Unavoidably the curiosity into a strong tradition of peoples rights through protest got smoothered by the dominant existance of abundant Homelessness. So while there I researched, and with no disrespect to the real situations, emersed in the scene [lived in a car] to produce HOMELAND:OAKLAND; a series of works I sent home to Taranaki, New Zealand to be exhibted in Percy Thomas Gallery. This Exhibition was comprised of my interaction with the Oakalnd Homeless and the trade of what ever I could with them for their most effective outlet to the world, their signs, and to translate these to my most effective outlet to the world, my artworks.

This Project while initialy unplanned, shifted the forecast of Milarky's path as an artist, intended as a side project to reflect the time in America, it managed to infultrate my research and give birth to my ability to speak publicaly; I returned New Zealand to give a two hour Public Artist Talk about the Exhibition's content and generation, then a few months later gave another public talk about Homlessness in West Coast America compared to New Zealand's situations during the official New Zealand Homeless Day Event. This expanded to give my previously wavering confidence a cause to produce an Exhibition based entirely on a concept I felt important rather than considering sellability or Gallery requirements. So during December in the CBD of New Plymouth I built a temporary Gallery with my family in an empty space and had Milarky's Solo Exhibition NO FOXED ABODE. NO FIXED ABODE was my first public discusion into Nomadity/Nomadism. This Exhibition of 44 works sold out, a response that concreted the chase of what mattered rather than what would aid a personal survial.

RESEARCH

So to continue the chase of knowledge and understanding I returned to academic study moving to the Capital where I currently live in my car while researching towards my Thesis in a Masters Degree.

New Zealand is too small for Nomads, I've traveled a lot here and after a few days in any direct you have to turn around, and although people and cuture shifts across its lands, its subtle, and the real results and behaviours of Nomadity are never acheived.. so I'm returning to America to continue this research.

FUNDING

All institutional infrastructures only provide funding or facilities if you reside at a fixed abode, a 'residency' and as I intend to do the oposing and have no fixed abode, help for my research is unfound.. so I've aimed at you.

FUTURE EXHIBITITON

After my return in early Augaust, Kina Gallery in New Plymouth has asked to Exhibit the produced series of works. This will be a solo Exhibition opening on the 26th August, your all welcome to this.

WALL PAINTING [MURALS]

I also work under the artist name Dside [formerly and annonomously half of the BMD duo before it ended last year] and while in America during 2015 I created several large scale murals under the BMD name based on conservation and environmental issues, primarily California's serious drought, Oregon's Naked Bike Ride event against Fossil Fuel consumption, and the Violence in Mexico.

INTENTION

The primary cause for a return to America is to develop research in the feild for my Masters Thesis, and Milarky's August Exhibition into Nomadism. Though while there will aslo be aiming to produce several large scale artworks as Dside, derived from the sitautions of human impact on conservation and environmental isues in varous area's; which I feel very resulting to the non Nomadic state of Human settlement and land manipulation.

Basicaly I have lots to do, with a very small amount of time to acheive it, and the more balanced I am finacialy the more I can chase real situations of other people's survival, focusing on developing the research sphere, rather than spending time solving my own surval issues.

NOMADISM

Quote from NO FIXED ABODE 2015 Exhibition press release;

..Nomadity has its place in all of Earth, and through eras or generations has encompassed different permitters. These have been explored along with the depicted boundaries of what Nomadity is now. This has lead to a dominant focus on what Milarky see's as the likely return to Nomadity of our species with the misled ability to care for the Earth, and the continuing curiosity of humans to cross its surface. Nomadity is a response to the environment, an adaption through a generationaly founded ability to tune into its ways, as opposed to our current mind set to tune the land to our desired ways. Finding ourselves building and having our fixed abodes yet unable to escape the inclination to be else where and move amongst the planet.
