IceBreaker Anti-Bullying Workshops

Project 2016-03-10 16:15:28 +1300

They stepped up.

Together we built a programme.

Now we need to launch it.

What is IceBreaker?

IceBreaker is a youth-led initiative developed with Yes Disability to empower young people with a disability who are living with bullying.  Six amazing young people who each have a disability and have all been bullied share their stories, hard-earned wisdom, tips, and tools to help others find a way through.

Who we are

Josh, Jaime, Lillian, Va, Grace and Tiffany created IceBreaker with me, Amelia as a facilitator on behalf of Yes Disability.

A bit of background

Creating the IceBreaker programme was a joyful, sometimes difficult and tearful experience, particularly for our young leaders who found the courage to step up. Now we need your help to take IceBreaker out where it can do what is was designed to do - to help others. To do that we need to turn our programme into a toolkit and get it on the road.

Research from the UK tells us that young people with disabilities are two to three times more likely to be bullied, and that more than 80% of all children and young people with an intellectual disability will be bullied. This is made more difficult by the fact that many struggle to communicate their experience. IceBreaker evolved directly from that experience.

What your help will pay for

IceBreaker will be launched during Youthweek in May 2016, your donation will pay for the production of workshop packs, the special transport needs of our awesome crew and to host a launch event that will get noticed.

They have all made it through bullying. They are strong, inspiring warriors and they have a story to tell.
