About

Ohakune Ice Rink, Coffee Bar And Hospitality Training Centre.

Project 2016-03-04 11:00:44 +1300

Over the last few years we have regularly visited Ohakune. As a Pastor and wife team of 30 years experience, working in the UK, PNG and New Zealand we are always looking to improve and help any community we work in. In the UK we were based in Satfford and built a home for pregnant homeless women. We saw over 50 births during our time there. We also took supplies to Romania after the fall of Communism, taking three trucks across Europe. All this was to meet the needs ofthe community we served.

In Ohakune we found little in the way of a young person's church and opportunities to meet needs in training, employment and making Ohakune an even more exciting destination than it already is.

After spending two years visiting my son in Ohakune we had learnt a little on how we could help. We are planning to plant a new church, but to meet the needs of the community we want to establish a synthetic ice rink, using the bowling club as a venue. The ice rink would be a good size at 300 square metres, accommodating over 100 people at a time. A coffee bar will be established creating training for locals in the hospitality trade and employment for locals. There's a future development of a crazy putting course, a community centre for local clubs, wedding receptions etc. One of the big problems facing many skiers is the lack of other entertainment if skiing is held up by the weather and of course at night when something to do will be very attractive to many visitors. Please pledge and help us make Ohakune a more brilliant destination. Dave & Viv.
