Why is this cat sad? This cat is sad because she has given birth to 4 litters of kittens since her own birth. She's sad because her kittens all got taken away from her and sad because those kittens ended up being killed. They were killed because of the overpopulation problem that comes with people not desexing their cats and dogs. Unfortunately, this is the sad reality for many dogs and cats born today. For years The Community Desexing Project in Invercargill have worked hard fighting this battle...
The Community Desexing Project in Invercargill is responsible for many, many spays and neuters in Invercargill over the last 5 years. The 2 vets and 1 vet nurse running the organisation volunteer their time whilst still working full time jobs. Their dedication and passion is phenomenal. They've only ever charged enough to cover their consumables doing their desexing for very, very little in an effort to provide a service to even the lowest income families in Southland.
Additionally, they work tirelessly (through their other non-profit Southern Cross Greyhound Adoptions) and ceaselessly rehoming ex-racing greyhounds in need of new lives and love but of course they desex them first....!
Unfortunately, they've found out that an anaesthetic machine (vital to their services) on loan to them is needed for something/someone else. Sadly, this halves the number of animals they can desex. An anaesthetic machine is typically in the region of $6,000 so the amount of money we need to raise is pretty substantial! That being said, it's time that the Southland community gives back to these three amazing people and helps them to attain all the equipment they require to do their tremendous work adequately, comfortably and safely.
