Resurfacing Treetops D.I.Y Park

Project 2015-12-12 13:06:48 +1300

With summer now here, and the Treetops community growing on the daily, it’s time to address the condition of our 1971 roller-skating rink and the detrition of its concrete. As of late many occupants have been making comments on the concrete, as well as the possible idea of adding additional rubbish and recycling bins, seating and drinking water fountains.

People come here instead of the skate park because it’s the simple stuff, it’s a couple of ledges and rails, and it provides us with a creative environment that keeps us skateboarders outside of the CBD.

With a number of similar venues around NZ having recently undergone a resurfacing process, we thought it’s about time for Treetops to receive the same treatment as other locations, such as Tauranga’s skating rink, Tokoroa skate park and the Tawa skating rink.

What we’re asking for is funding to have the rink’s concrete, diamond grinded which involves eliminating the weathered surface resulting in a polished finish for its users.

We’ve measured the area and received a quote from a Garth Urquhart, who specializes in this restoration process.

This public space is utilized by skateboarders, basketball players, children, and the general community everyday, but could be greatly improved.

We’ve already received a letter of approval from Wellington City Council, however we still need the funding and support from you guys so we can make it happen.

You can stay up to date with the progress and all things Treetops related using the hashtag #TreetopsDIY.

Thanks for taking the time to hear us out.
