BaristaCats: Auckland's Central Cat Cafe

With your help, we're bringing you Central Auckland's very own Cat Cafe!

Our Vision

Welcome to Auckland’s Central Cat Cafe! We are creating a refuge for cats and people in the heart of Auckland. If you’re looking for a space to chill out, have a coffee and make some fluffy friends the BaristaCats is the place for you.

About BaristaCats

We have a premise on Queen Street, we have commenced the internal fit out (which includes 10 walls + 7 doors to make the space purrrrrrfect) and we have our first three residents ready to move in.

We have received approval to operate from the Auckland Council, the Ministry for Primary Industries and the SPCA for the operation of BaristaCats.

With all of the above underway? We’ll be opening the doors on the 1st December ‘15!

So, why do we need your support?

We have raised over $80,000 from private investors, friends, family and supporters to get to this point (as well as investing our own savings into the business). While this covers the majority of the technical fit out (like making the building fit for purpose, and purchasing hospitality equipment) we do need “just a little help from our friends” to get over the final line. We have emptied every pocket & scraped every barrel before coming to you - but now, we are asking for your help.

We’re asking for your assistance with the fun stuff - the soft fit out of the space and more support for the kitties.

We know that you love cats, love awesome merchandise and can’t wait to come and visit.

And we’d love your help to make all of those three things come together.

What, you may ask, do you get in exchange for your generous support?

We've worked hard to put together a stupendous range of rewards for you! From t-shirts, with a choice of two custom designs, to keep cups with our logo, to the more grand rewards, such the chance to leave your mark on the cafe, or name one of our furry residents!

Our Cats & Their Welfare

It’s our love of cats that has driven our dream to open BaristaCats: so that those who aren’t able to open up their own homes to a feline friend still have an opportunity to play and interact with some truly wonderful kitties.

We are absolutely committed to providing the  best care and quality of life for our cats. We have a thorough welfare plan that we have developed with assitance from the SPCA and our vet, to ensure that BaristaCats operates to the best possible standard, at all times. In addition to this, the SPCA will be inspecting our cafe regularly to ensure compliance with our welfare plan, and that our cats have everything they could possibly need!

We are looking high and low for cats that will be a perfect fit for our cafe. This means working with a number of rescue agencies to find the perfect kitties for our space. We are working with Franklin Cat Rescue, SPCA Auckland, Paws for Life and The Humane Society to source the right kitties for the environment. We are also home to some cats with special needs who might have trouble in another situation, but will do wonderfully with us.

About Our Humans Behind The Project

Julia:

Julia is, by trade an insurance lawyer, who fell in love with Cat Cafes when visiting Thailand. As I child she always wanted a cat, but with a very allergic father and a very anti-cat step-father cats were not an option. She knows what it’s like to want a little animal love in your life, but for whatever reason, not being able to have it. Julia is originally from Christchurch, but has lived all over New Zealand over the years. Julia has now settled in Auckland, and is looking to bring a little cat-love into your lives

Dave:

Dave is a singer, actor, runner, photographer, and sometime lawyer. While more of a dog person, after learning that a “puppy pub” wouldn’t be possible, he has thrown his heart into this venture, to bring more animal love of all forms to the people of Auckland. Dave is originally from Blenheim, and has worked in Christchurch, Sydney and New York before landing here in Auckland. When not helping write welfare plans, pick locations and chose furry residents, Dave works in international arbitration.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

19/11/2015 at 10:56 AM

Dear BaristaCats friends & supporters,

THANK YOU for your help to get us over the line! Due to your support, we hit the $15,000 target in time - and we are on track to open on the 1st December!

We wouldn't have been able to do this without your assistance - so thank you from all of us!

A member of our team will be in touch shortly regarding your reward; and, in the meantime, if you have any questions, contact us at [email protected] or find us on Facebook

And, our beautiful new website is now live - so head on over and check it out!

THANK YOU again for your support and we can't wait to see you in the cafe shortly!

The BaristaCats team

We need your help to conquer the final stages of the Crowdfunding Meow-ntain!

14/11/2015 at 7:12 AM

With thirty-six hours to go, BaristaCats requires just $1,175 to reach the targeted $15,000. We've raised over 92%: but we need your help in the final stretch!

As the funding is only received if the target is reached, we would love your assistance to get over the line. The money that we raise through the PledgeMe campaign is desperately required for the furnishing of the cafe and support of the kitties; which will allow us to ensure that the doors open on the 1st December in Central Auckland.

Thank you for YOUR support - please let your friends and family know that you've supported this project and you'd love to see it succeed!

The countdown is on!

TWO-THIRDS OF THE WAY THERE!

09/11/2015 at 9:49 PM

To our wonderful supporters,

Thank you SO much for your help and assistance with our BaristaCats Cafe Pledge Me campaign - we really appreciate your ongoing support and championing of our cause!

We have just six days left for the Pledge Me campaign to run, and we’re currently sitting at 66.8% of our target of $15,000. With opening now just a few weeks away and some of the biggest parts of the cafe still to prepare (like our cosy cat lounge!), now is the time we need your support more than ever.

We still need to raise $4,970 - and we’d love you to help us get over the final hurdle!

Your support in getting this far has been great - and we’d love for you to tell your friends, family and colleagues about BaristaCats and why you’ve already pledged.

We’ve got some suggested copy below for your social network pages: but feel free to take and amend this as you see fit!

I’ve pledged to help make BaristaCats Cafe a reality: Julia is following her dream of creating Auckland’s Central Cat Cafe, and her team is is set to open the doors on the 1st December. However, she needs your help to finish the fit-out! You can help the team by giving over on PledgeMe.

And, don’t forget to check out the progress (and the cute furry residents) on the BaristaCats Facebook page! Thank you for your support.

THANK YOU for your help - we’re just over two-thirds of the way there!

We can’t wait to welcome you to the launch of BaristaCats in just a few weeks’ time.
