2016 Craft Beer Calendar
Project 2015-10-06 21:17:03 +1300
We’re back this year to celebrate the people that make Kiwi beer great with another charity calendar - and this time, we’re putting it all out there (literally!). When we first floated this idea at the 2014 Pacific Beer Expo, everyone assumed it would be a naked calendar. We would never want to withhold such beauty and hilarity from the people, so we are delighted to announce that this year’s calendar will feature an additional NSFW Edition alongside the more traditional offering.
The best thing about New Zealand craft beer is the beautiful people who create and serve it. From the brewers to the bartenders to the writers, these delightful individuals have turned craft beer into more than a beverage or an industry - it's a community. This year has seen us rally together through our highs and lows. From Yeastie Boys’ record-breaking equity crowdfunding campaign to the recent immediate outpouring of support for Jason and Andrew after the accident at 8 Wired, we truly are a family.
Why?
The Sexual Abuse Prevention Network (SAPN) began as a collaboration of two survivor support agencies (Wellington Rape Crisis and Wellington Sexual Abuse HELP Foundation) and one agency that works with people with sexually harmful behaviour (WellStop). The network seeks to prevent sexual violence by using education and preventative strategies that promote healthy sexuality. SAPN is a steering group member of the 'Who Are You? Safer Bars Project' and delivers the programme's ethical bystander training. The Safer Bars Project promotes identification and prevention of sexual violence within hospitality settings through the inclusion of specific sexual violence-related training material.
Who?
Each month of the calendar will feature images of the people and places at the heart of this community - the brewers, the bars, and the writers. And yes, the beards! The talented Jed Soane (Photographer) and Michelle Burke (Beard Stylist) are back again this year, along with other photographers around New Zealand. We’ve brought Sean Golding of Golding’s Free Dive on board for his masterful art direction, and breweries new and old are signing up every day.
How?
If you want to model or shoot for either calendar, visit our website for more details and get in touch via email or twitter. In order to get more representation this year, we're giving preference to collaborations involving multiple bars, breweries, distributors, writers, and/or other personalities. We’re especially keen to get some beer dogs (and other animals) into this year’s calendar - brewery dogs, pub locals, your neighbour’s new puppy, that otter you 'borrowed' from the zoo - we’re not fussy.
We believe in paying creatives for their work, and while our photographers and designer have offered their time at a discount, we want to ensure that they receive compensation to show our gratitude. The organising team and models have all volunteered their time. We need $4,000 to cover the time and resources required to shoot, design, print, and distribute the calendar - everything else we collect will go straight to SAPN.
Last year we raised $15,000 for SAPN - can we break $20,000 this year?

We did it - now it's time to party!

The lovely folks at Wakefields Digital are hard at work printing calendars, so now it's time for us to plan a party. In case you missed our last update, the party will be on Sunday 13 December at Bin 44.
Buy tickets here! Tickets are $20 in advance ($25 on the door) and include your first drink free, plus a variety of sweet and savoury nibbles. There will be dancing and shenanigans a-plenty.
In addition to Bin 44's excellent selection of beers, we'll have discounted charity kegs on from Wild & Woolly, Choice Bros, Yeastie Boys, and Tuatara, with all proceeds going to SAPN, so come and enjoy a pint or two in the sunshine.
There will also be a silent auction of a selection of signed prints from both calendars - the perfect gift for that special someone (or you - treat yoself!).
We'll be there from 3 PM, with the official speeches and auction happening around 6:30.
We'll see you at Bin 44!

PS. We'll also have a few extra copies of the calendar for sale - first come, first served. Order now to reserve your copies for pickup.

Hello beautiful pledgers and sponsors!
We did it! 25 shoots in less than a month. Thanks to all our photographers, but especially Jed Soane for his tireless patience in the face of so many butts.
We're going to print with designer Meg Howie's beautiful work tomorrow morning, so if you want some extra copies for xmas presents, get your order in ASAP!
The official launch party will be on 13 December at Bin 44 on the beautiful Wellington waterfront. If you didn't pledge for tickets, you can buy them here. There will be beer, food, beautiful people, festive shenanigans, and a silent auction of signed copies of some of the calendar prints (including the NSFW edition!). You can also pick up your calendars then. If you're out of Wellington (or just can't make the party), they'll be posted first thing Monday morning.
Thanks again for all your support - we'll see you at the party!
beery hugs,
Jess & Megan
One more day!
24/11/2015 at 10:39 PM
Hello lovely backers!
We're into the home stretch - one more day until the campaign closes! We've had an exciting week of - well, butts, mostly -but also NSFW shoots and have accepted that we will be sore from laughing for at least another week.
The amazing thing about this whole lark is the incredible people who just step up and help out, no questions asked. Get naked at the Brooklyn turbine? Sure, no problem. Lend a car on a moment's notice? Sweet as. Herd a dozen slightly-tipsy beer-lovers into an organised shoot? Bring it. Give up all your lunch breaks to take pictures of your naked friends? Well okay then (thanks Jed - we really couldn't do this without you!)
As we scramble to get all the shoots finished before we go to print, we can't help but take a moment to fist bump each other for creating these ridiculous circumstances that allow us to hang out with such lovely people.
But enough sap - with 24 hours to go, we're still a ways off last year's total. So tell your friends, your favourite brewery, and your local pub to get pledging!
Here are some behind the scenes shots of this week's #NSFW shoots to inspire you.
beery hugs,
J&M
