The Restyle Project Foundation

Hi! We're pledging to set up the Restyle Project Foundation Charitable Trust, a non-profitable trust aiming to raise funds for a charitable event called "The Restyle Project". The project is organised by FRENCH83 (NZ menswear brand) and WHITECLIFFE COLLEGE OF ARTS & DESIGN (NZ design school in Auckland). For the past 2 years, our team of 4 has been running it and volunteering mostly out of working hours. Now the project has become part of the Whitecliffe fashion design course curriculum for year 3 students, we really want to work together with the NZ public as we're a very small company and have limited resources to continue this in the long run.

The key objective of the project is to promote sustainable fashion and supporting young kiwi designers to explore more eco-friendly/innovative options in manufacturing their products. The cycle starts with the collection of unwanted suits taken to Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design for fashion students to upcycle into new garments. FRENCH83 market the finished garments and sell it on Trade-me to fundraise for a cause. For the past 2 years, we donated the net proceed to Dream Chaser Foundation, a local charity helping children with Cancer. This was all very well and we have financially supported families through this as an outcome.

As our project aims to promote sustainable fashion and make a change in the fashion industry, it is not enough to simply encourage behavioral change of consumers. More importantly we need to educate the mindset of the next generation designers who will ultimately depict what consumers wear in the future.

Restyle Project 1

<Design by King Kang (Fashion student from 2015)>

Through Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), we were introduced to a farm in China growing organic cotton and this has been a significant source of income for the villagers. Their fashion department organises field trips for their students to visit the farm because to understand the importance & benefits of using organic material and practice ethical/fair trade processes, it is necessary for students to have hands on or direct experience with the farmers.

.

<HKDI Presenation and field trip>

Therefore, we aim for the money we fundraise from the trust and the selling of the upcycle garments to subsidies student/s to join the Hong Kong Trip to the organic farm as well as exchanging experience in an international market; widening their opportunities once they're graduated.

<HKDI students visiting organic certified factory & farm>

To make this happen, we need to set up a trust fund that will hold the fund for the student's trip as well as any marketing/promotional work we organise for The Restyle Project when we are selling the upcycled garments.

The budget breakdown is as follows:

1)Legal cost toward setting up of the trust: $5,000

2) 2 x Student/s economy airfare and accommodation: approx. $6,000

3) Marketing budget for The Restyle Project: $5,000

4) Accounting cost for the trust: $3,000

5) General cost for the trust to start: $1,000

Setting up the Trust is the right way to provide long term structure and governance for the project so our first step is to set up the trust which cost $5,000. However for the benefits of The Restyle Project to happen we need a lot more funding as shown in the breakdown above so please keep pledging and lets work together for a more sustainabe fashion future!
