My name is Kalisha Wasasala, and I'm in my second year of acting training at New Zealand's National Drama School, Toi Whakaari, in Wellington NZ. As we head into our third and final year of training, senior students are given the opportunity to take on internships over summer.
I am looking to intern in London, UK during this period, and I am fundraising in order to get myself over there. This is an important part of my training.
My personal and artistic passions lie in immersive, physical and rigorous theatre work that finds new ways to engage audiences through form. In my second year, I am currently exploring the ideas of text, heart and scale in my own work; how these elements are linked, and discovering what these terms mean to me within different contexts, and within my own artistic practice. In my work I strive for connection, innovation and levity.
These are elements I am looking to grow in my work through secondment in London. I am confident that this will be a fulfilling and challenging experience as an artist.
I'm looking to expand my worldview as an artist and enhance my practice by being in a completely new environment, working with professionals who make work that I admire. I'm an extremely ambitious and hard-working person, and I know I can make the most out of this opportunity.
Also, I've never been to Europe before. I am excited and scared and ready for this well-needed personal and professional growth. Any donation you can make will help, and I am so thankful. X
