Bikes In Schools At Lakeview School: Help Our Kids Experience The Joy Of Cycling!

Project 2015-08-19 16:28:10 +1200

Help us get on track to have a wheely good time!

Remember that feeling when you first rode a two-wheeler by yourself...priceless!

Every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy riding a bike brings. Here at Lakeview School we have been working hard to raise funds to bring the first Bikes in Schools project to the Wairarapa!
We're aiming to create a gold standard for the rest of our Wairarapa Schools. The tracks will be open every weekend for our community to have a go too! We are now seeking your support of making a small pledge to help our local children and contribute to raising confident young kiwi kids!

To secure this funding we must meet our goal of $2000.
Once we reach our goal, you can keep on giving...

If we raised $2000 that would buy a set of 50 helmets and 5 bikes!
If we could raise
$5000 that would buy us 10 more bikes!
If we can raise $10,000 that would help us complete the whole Bikes in Schools project! We're like the little red engine that could..."I think I can, I think I can"...

Together, let’s get geared up!

Here's how you can help:

With support from local community trusts and organisations we have nearly raised enough money to put towards building our bike tracks but what is a track without the means to use it...

Bicycle! Bicycle! I want to ride a Bicycle...

Donations that reach $300 will buy one bike for the children.

If you would like to sponsor a whole bike, you will have bike naming rights.

Just $20 will be enough to buy a helmet for a child.

We would appreciate any donation you could spare to contribute toward creating this exciting environment for our children at Lakeview School!

THE NITTY GRITTY

What is Bikes in Schools?

It's a complete biking package set up in a school that enables all students to ride a bike on a regular basis.

The full package includes:

- A fleet of new bikes
- A set of bike helmets
- A combination of three cycle tracks: a skills, pump and loop track
- A bike storage shed
- Cycle skills training for the children through the Pedal Ready programme

Who are we?

Lakeview School is the largest primary school in Masterton with approximately 470 students ranging from Years 1-8. A large percentage of our students come from the lower socio economic areas of Masterton. As a result many of our students rely on the support structures available through the school to provide unforgettable and enriching experiences, such as having the opportunity to ride a bike. The integration of Bikes in Schools at Lakeview School will create an inclusive environment for the school’s pupils, staff, whānau, community and the wider Wairarapa community.
Check out our journey so far on Facebook by searching: Bikes in Schools Wairarapa.

Why Bikes in Schools?

Over the last 25 years there has been a dramatic fall in biking by New Zealand children which has resulted in many children not being able to experience ‘the joy of biking’. Their are many positive social and health impacts that result from biking regularly. We want to introduce Bikes in Schools as it is the most cost effective, time efficient and low-risk way to provide a wide range of positive economic and social outcomes to our entire school and wider community. These benefits include improved health, better focus, cycle skills, increased fitness and greater confidence.

Thank-you in advance for your kind donation. This is an experience our children will treasure and one they would love to share with you!

Let’s make like a wheel and roll….
