I am a contemporary Jewellery and object maker based in Wellington.
My Jewellery career started in 2010 when I attended a Workshop 6 night class in Kingsland. I only intended on doing a 3 month, once a week class. After the first class I was hooked. I concurrently attended another course and then was allowed to rent a bench during class times and make what I wanted under the generous guidance of some of New Zealands most talented Jewellers. I had always had a passion for the Arts but had never really found my “thing”. Everything about Jewellery appealed to me, the scale, range of materials and the dichotomy between art/object and adornment. So I quit my job and went back to Art School. After three years at Unitec in Auckland, I decided to complete a Graduate Diploma at Whiteriea in Wellington. This was a hugely fruitful endevor and added weight to my tool belt and ways of thinking. I see this oppurtunity and trip to Europe as the next step in my education. My passion for Jewellery grows everyday. Jewellers are an innovative bunch and I am excited by the potential oppotunities within this cutting edge vocation.
Funding towards: Exhibiting at Galerie Marzee Graduate exhibition and attending Symposium in The Netherlands.
Being chosen to exhibit in the Marzee graduate exhibition is an amazing acknowledgement. Galerie Marzee is one of the most influential Contemporary Jewellery Galleries in the world and represents some of the most acclaimed Jewellers in the field. Attended by a large number of international exhibitors as well as key figures within the international scene, attending will provide significant networking opportunities and peer relationship building. It will also provide a strong learning environment through both the exhibition itself and its parallel symposium.
I have been selected from a large number of Artists to attend this exhibition. This is a super opportunity. Your generosity is mucho appreciated!
Thank you,
Amy King.
