Sadly our Wharenui needs to be rebuilt costing over $300k+.  In total we need 1/3 of that amount  $100,000.  A number of Fundraisers are rolling at the moment, as we have till September to find the total.  The ground work has been completed.  The Plans are drawn up, and Now we need an injection of $$$$  to achieve this.

Through the support of Pledgeme, we hope to raise a portion of that being $5,000 towards the required funds.  Catch 22 is:-  We must reach the Target amount and all pledges must be honoured.

Our Head Coordinator & Deputy Chair is Rose H for this Project and Funds raised from this will be paid directly into the Marae Account.

Give a little and show you support our Marae.  Building it Bigger, Better & Stronger

Petāne marae is located at 59 Taits Road, Bayview, Napier.   Its principal hapū are Ngāti Matepu and Ngāti Whakaari of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.    The wharenui is called Te Amiki. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Tākitimu, the maunga Heipipi and the awa Waiohinanga (Esk River).

 Marae rebuild plan

In the rebuild, the wharenui will be made Earthquake proof, and will be widened through the centre of the building to create more space inside.  A ramp will be built to the verandah and widened  for easier access, particularly for tangi.  Hot water will be changed to gas creating more efficiency . and where possible as much of the Buildings  traditional look will be retained.   A new ablution block is also in the planning.
