BLOW ME OVER WITH A COTTON BALL

Cotton balls, straws, feathers, balloons, newspaper, lotion, twinkle twinkle little star all these can change a child’s present and future world.

Not all children start off equal some don't see their parents, some have disabilities, some experience bad things. Some children are afraid, sad or worried all the time. All children however want to feel loved, special, connected to others and their communities. They have dreams and goals, want to experience success, overcome challenges, play, laugh, dance and sing.

Toilet paper, baby powder, sticky stars, funny hats, big cushions, blindfolds, Simon Says, row row row your boat; simple things can make a difference in the right hands.

Help us put these things in the hands of the right people, so they can make a difference to children’s lives.

Theraplay is adult structured therapeutic play. It is an intervention that is meeting the needs of children with complex challenges because of (relational) developmental trauma, disabilities and/or life circumstances, neglect, maltreatment. Theraplay helps children learn how to regulate their behaviour and emotions, socially engage and persevere through challenges. The experiential nature of Theraplay helps to build children's capacity for positive attachment experiences and successful social interactions which increase children’s resilience and opportunities for successful relationships, careers and lives.

We need more professionally skilled practitioners to help children tamariki and their families whānau experience connection, shared joy, successful interactions, laughter and fun.  The $10,000 will be used to fly in certified Theraplay trainers from the United States to train more professionals, nationally, across our seven villages. It may also contribute to supervision and other certification costs necessary to ensure professional standards are maintained. As a single practitioner I cannot meet the demand. I have worked with families for over fifteen years and the analytical approach and simplistic fun activities makes this intervention a unique and effective means to address the diverse range of challenges that confron vulnerable children.

Ashleigh was inspired, and wrote and sung a song to support the Theraplay Project so we would like to support her also to work towards her dream of becoming an accomplished singer/songwriter. So money raised will help her to access quality support through singing lessons.

Corporate Sponsors: If you want to become a corporate sponsor of Theraplay please contact Fiona on 033322541 or [email protected]

In summary all I can say is “blow me over with a cotton ball Theraplay works” now help us to help more children and their families.
