Help Me Pursue My Language Scholarship In Perugia, The "green Heart Of Italy"

I'm honored to have won a scholarship to Italy to further my studies in Italian at the Università per Stranieri (University for International Students) in Perugia, and I need your help to get me there!

On behalf of the Italian Embassy (Wellington), and the Italian Language Department at Victoria University, the scholarship has been awarded to me on the basis of academic excellence. This is an incredible opportunity to immerse myself into the Italian community in Umbria (the “green heart of Italy”) and improve my fluency in Italian whilst simultaneously heightening my skills as an Opera singer. My passion for Italian Opera is continually growing and advancing my language skills is crucial to furthering my career as a performer. This opportunity will also enable me to make contacts throughout Italy for future performance work as my career begins to unfold.

I first traveled to Italy in 2012 after finishing high school and, after many fundraisers, I found myself in the art capital, Florence. I studied Italian, singing, and painting at the European Institute of Music and Languages and is something I will never forget. My passion for the Italian language intensified during this time and was easily one of the most transformative experiences of my life. My passion for the language and connection to the culture has drawn me to Italy ever since.

I'm lucky enough for the scholarship to cover the cost of the course fees and a small amount towards living costs – but not the flights. This is where you come in! The return flights are $2,083NZD, with my total budget being around $4,100. Anyone who has traveled or lived in Italy will know that there will barely be a cent to spare! I really need your help to make this opportunity a reality and to take another step towards a long (hopefully infinite) journey. I will be forever grateful for your support in this process of transforming my dreams into reality, and you might get something out of it too!

This scholarship opportunity will allow me to increase my cultural insight into Italy's heart of Opera, as well as Italy as a whole. The exposure to the community will be invaluable as I pursue a career as an Opera singer. Italy, being the origin of Opera, will allow me to discover the roots of the Italian language, the language of music. A career in Opera requires an incredible amount of willpower and strength of spirit – this experience will contribute to the foundations I lean on as a performer.
