Kia ora Aotearoa.

Do artists reflect the world they live in, or do they help create it? As the Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky stated "Art is not a mirror to reflect the world, but a hammer with which to shape it."

Either way, these artists have put their hands up, and are speaking out for justice to prevail for political prisoners Taame Iti and Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara, in their bid to take their case to the Court of Appeal in Wellington, August 22nd.

Musicians and social justice advocates Jessie Moss and Vanessa Stacey are the team rallying together artists from all over the motu, to raise $3500 towards the $50,000 appeal fund being gathered by Tuuhoe whanau.

These artists include Anna Coddington, The Nudge, Mara TK, Spartacus R, Jessie James and the Outlaws, Asher Newbery, Matiu Te Huki, Imon Starr, The Eastern, Dead Vicious, Nais, Suni Hermon, Roy G and the Bivinators and many more.......

We are asking you to pledge towards this cause, to stand in solidarity with these artists. In return you can choose from all the amazing rewards on offer that they have donated. Take your pick! Pledges start at $5 up to $300, or as much as you like ...

Taame and Rangi are currently serving disproportionate sentences of 2.5 years for Arms Charges that would usually attract sentences of community service or fines. The time they are currently serving is a reflection of the sentencing Judge's belief that they were organising crime, despite their being no evidence of this presented by the Crown and not being found guilty of such a charge by the jury in May this year. Furthermore, they have been sentenced using evidence that was dismissed by the Supreme Court in 2011 for the other 13 defendants who had their charges dropped as a result. That evidences was ruled as illegally gathered by the police, and therefor inadmissible to court. Why then have Taame, Rangi, (Urs Signer and Emily Bailey), been found guilty using the same evidence. It is this point that forms the basis of the appeal being lodged.
