About

"Forgotten Favourites" Radio Show On Plains FM

Project 2015-04-20 19:48:35 +1200

"Forgotten Favourites" is a new radio show (in the making) that will be focusing on the rare, the underrated and often overlooked music of the 20th century.  This once-monthly show will be on Plains FM (Christchurch) on the last Saturday of each month (except December, which will be the Saturday before Christmas), commencing on May the 30th.  The show will also be available to people outside of Canterbury as the station can be streamed live from their website.

Our mission with this show is to introduce and/or reintroduce some of the beloved music of the past.  Particularly the ones that don't get talked about much anymore.  For example, we all know the Belinda Carlisle hit, "Heaven is a Place on Earth", but when was the last time you heard a radio station play her other songs, like "I Get Weak"?  Bon Jovi is known for their smash hit, "Livin' on a Prayer", but how many times has "Runaway" been played lately?  I rest my case!

The show will be hosted by Jared Rowbotham (a.k.a. Duckman) who is a bit of a music connoisseur, especially if it's old.  His past experience in radio isn't 'official' as such, but he has been involved in a comedy album project ("Ducksel FM") where he and his friend, Forbes King (a.k.a. Weasel), played the roles of 2 radio DJ's getting up to mischief in each episode.  This project served as sort of a 'rehearsal' for the real deal, which is now finally happening!

However, there is a cost involved in being a part of community radio such as Plains FM.  For each monthly episode, it will cost $48.30 to go on-air.  For now, the show is booked from May to December, bringing it to a total of 8 months - $386.40.  The entire year's worth of funding can be paid in advance, which would be preferred, but can do this once a month if needed.  The deadline for this project is May 15, which should give it some time to process before sending to the station itself.

All pledges made will go towards the fees for each episode.  If the goal is reached before the deadline, and the funding goes past the total cost for the shows in 2015, what's left over can be put aside for any future shows in 2016.
