About

Project LOO

Project 2015-04-09 22:43:27 +1200

We need a loo - We need your support!

We will be having a fully-flushing toilet installing out at our Garden Project location.

However, the costs for piping and permits will cost us $500.00.

We need to fund-raise for this urgently. All volunteers working on the garden and vistors to the garden will benefit from our loo.

We would like 25 supporters at $20.00 each; for their pledge we will have their name plaques on our loo - forever. We will probably be looking at creative plaques made of clay.

About The Gardening Project

We have kindly been offered the use of an acre of land at The Olde Creamery (317 Kaipaki Rd) to create a community garden. Working with schools, tertiary education institutions and volunteers, we are in the process of developing a productive garden that exemplifies sustainable food production. As well as growing produce to be used at our food servings, we desire our garden to be an educational and therapeutic retreat to volunteers and patrons, as connecting with nature is proven to be positive for mental health and well-being.

About Hamilton Homeless Trust

We serve food on a nightly basis to people who are going through challenging times and who can benefit from some warm food and a bit of love. We also distribute blankets and sleeping bags, clothing, hats and gloves, and other items useful to our patrons. When patrons approach us for help, we link them to other community groups and services as well as assist them in finding accommodation, applying for jobs and improving their circumstances.

We are currently working on attaining a premises to become a ‘free restaurant’, and setting up a community garden. Our vision is that the community garden will be a skills-building and therapeutic retreat for patrons and volunteers, which will supply the free restaurant. The free restaurant will not only feed our patrons, but also run cooking classes and other skills-building courses to help patrons transitioning from homelessness, poverty or dependence to a stable and self-supporting lifestyle.
