New Christian School For Wellington

Project 2015-04-06 18:02:13 +1200

Our vision is to establish a state-integrated, interdenominational, co-educational school in Wellington, a place where the NZ curriculum and the word of the Lord are taught in unity. We are aiming for a new Christian school, initially for the intermediate and secondary levels.

Wellington is ready for this Christian school. Currently, there is nothing like it in Wellington. We believe that it is God’s plan and timing to establish this school now. Research has shown that many families in Wellington are looking for this school and want to see it become a reality.

We are raising funds for the deposit on an excellent site with existing school buildings. This is a unique opportunity that we want to take advantage of.

We need $200,000 to place a deposit on this remarkable site.

The pre-existing school site is our first choice; however we are also assessing other options if we cannot obtain this property.

Our plan is to secure the appropriate location so that we can work towards starting the school, including applying for integration with the Ministry of Education.

The Wellington Christian Education Trust was formed as a charitable trust at the end of 2013. It consists of people from local churches who share this vision, and are working with other Christian communities and churches in Wellington.  We have support and advice from the NZ Christian Proprietors’ Trust as we work towards integration with the Ministry of Education. We also have the support of the NZ Association of Christian Schools who represent other schools around the country that share our vision.

I have been really encouraged talking to the leaders of so many different churches around Wellington. So many people are really enthusiastic about seeing this happen, but don't know how it will work. If we all put together our little bit now, the small amounts that you think may not make a difference, we will be able to do this. We have been so encouraged by the messages of support and people looking forward to having this opportunity for future generations in Wellington.

All the different people who are helping us out, each different pledge, is vital in helping this come together. I love the idea that microfunding or crowdfunding this school shows the interdenominational nature of this project. Built into the foundation is the idea of Christians working together in unity to build something for Wellington.

The hope we have is that the next generation will grow up with strong links between the churches, that we will be able to live out Christ's instruction from John 13, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Thanks for joining in this and keep telling people our story!

We are working with the Westmount Campus in Johnsonville to buy their site!

This is a very exciting opportunity for us, as it is already operating as a school for Yrs 1-13, so has all the necessary specialist facilities. A school being available for purchase within the area that the Government has identified as open for an integrated school is unusual, we believe God is opening up doors for us. The location also meets our desire for a school that is accessible to Wellington city, the Hutt valley and porirua city, being only a few minutes off the motorway, and very close to the Raroa train station and mjor bus routes. This access will improve for the Hutt when the link road is built.

The school is on a beautiful area, with a view between the hills, looking to Wellington harbour. It has a gym, science lab, technology rooms, music studio and a bright, new modern learning centre for self-directed learning for individual and group study, as well as the standard school facilities. This would enable us to offer a full curriculum, confident in the facilities available for the teachers and students.

We would take over the property at the end of 2016, enabling us to start in 2017.

Remember, we need your help, pray about what you should give and who you should share the vision with!Westmount classroooms

Thank you so much for your interest! We are so excited by the interest people have shown. A few questions are coming up, so I hope this will help some what.

  1. Location: We are currently looking in the northern corridor, essentially from Newlands north. We have been in preliminary discussions with the Ministry of Education and looked at other research, and this is the area that has been identified regularly as the most suitable. If you have any specific questions or comments, we will try to answer as well we can at this stage.
  2. Why interdenominational? We believe in strength in unity, that the church combined brings a strength and shared vision, sharing the burden and responsibility to make soemthing wonderful. We are told that people will know that we are Christ's disciples by the way we love one another- this is an opportunity to express, nurture and develop that love which can then overflow into the wider community.
