Art in the Dark

In 2011, Art in the Dark had 30,000 visitors that viewed over 30 light installations by New Zealand artists.

Art in the Dark is run by a team of young professionals that drop what they are doing to come running when Art in the Dark leader (Celia Harrison) calls. This is because Art in the Dark is more than just pretty light installations. It is a platform for emerging artists to be placed alongside established artists. Its a showcase of kiwi ingenuity in that we are trying to make the whole festival run on 100% clean energy. Its a reclaiming of Auckland urban spaces and a response to the demand to make parks safer at night. Above all, this event allows the community to come together to celebrate beautiful artwork in a beautiful space for free.

It paves the way for more interesting art in Auckland and fosters a spirit that we are starting to generate in the community. 

Art in the Dark is an important event that should be celebrated as a real showcase of what sheer determination and vision can create.
