So you are writing a novel?  Big deal!

Why yes, it is kind of a big deal.  After nearly two years of work, the novel is 95% complete.  My poor wife has suffered the most in that I‘ve been sitting at the computer non-stop, usually only popping out to cook dinner.  All the toil aside, I am fairly confident that the material has come together in a way that will not only be entertaining to read, but thought-provoking, and humorous.
The story takes place one hundred years in the future, with Earth as we now know it being the basis for its history. Shortly after the discovery of an alien technology is made on a distant planet that allows the souls of men to be captured and held indefinitely, the process is soon patented. The infallible truth of the time is that the gods, or the God has yet to intervene in the affairs of men, and so the whole of society falls under a new promise in the hopes that they might live forever. There is one man, however, who knows the truth behind all of these events... but he is no longer certain of who he really is.
There‘s action, romance, intrigue, heartache, a bit of gore, and humor all wrapped up into 300 (roughly) tidy pages! Oh yeah, and did I mention that it‘ll be funny too?

Sounds great, but why don‘t you get a publisher like everyone else, you lazy bum?

The traditional publishing landscape is in a state of uncertainty right now what with e-books and everyone on the planet trying hard to save trees-- (hey, I rally behind that cause!)-- and it‘s very tricky for a first-time novelist to break in. By self-funding I‘ll have more luck getting my material out there than I would if I just let the manuscript languish in the slush pile of a major publisher. My goal is to have the high-quality trade paperback and hardcover versions of the book ready to be mailed out by Summer 2013, whether it‘s a big-time house like Tor, or if I just self publish using Lulu.

So what are you going to do with all this money between now and then?

The most vital service this will afford me is editorial help, and likewise, this will be the most important thing that I actually spend the money on. (I‘ve already got an editor lined up, Fantasy Award winner Pat LoBrutto!)  As far as artwork goes, this too can be quite costly depending on the artist.  I will likely be creating the book‘s exterior art myself, though I will be paying artist Scott Grimando for the various arcane art pieces which will grace the inner pages.

This all makes sense. But who are you again and why should I care?

I‘m Brandon Jones, that‘s who! Besides aren‘t you tired of the sanctimonious robber baron coming out on top when he should be six feet under?!  Well then, help out the little guy!  And anyway, if we‘re gonna be friends, call me Ponyboy.  Thanks for reading and I hope I have convinced you enough to do your good deed for the year and participate!
