Out With Mum - A Oneshot Collective Film

Synopsis: Closeted Nate goes for a walk along the waterfront with his out and proud boyfriend, Rory, when they cross paths with Nate's eccentric mother, Miriam and her acerbic friend Stella.

Out with Mum is a comedic short film dealing with the pressures of coming out and trying to meet the expectations of both your lover and your family.

The film is scheduled to be shot late March and the cast has already begun rehearsing as this is a demanding fast paced script.

The target budget is $2800. This is to cover the costs of equipment hireage, catering and paying the cast and crew for their time.

Also note that all pledges $50 and over will secure you a digital streaming link of the completed "Encounters" film that "Out with Mum" is a part of.

Conan McKegg - Writer/Director/Producer

As a columnist and independent filmmaker, Conan has written speculative fiction since he was a child. As a freelance writer, he has had books published by Dream Pod 9, Vimary Burns and Revanche along with a short story for Steam Logic Press. More recently he wrote, directed and produced the web shows The Winding City and Urban Numina and as part of the Sandpit: Script Workshops he has been developing the body-swap comedy Distorientation. Out with Mum is a story that focuses on Conan's interest to see more gay protagonists in film.

Brandt Feeney - Nate

Brandt is an actor, model, musician and dancer. In 2013, he completed a Performing Arts Diploma, studying at the NZ College of Performing Arts (NZCOPA), Whitieria, Wellington. In 2014 he finished his Performing Arts Degree (Stage and Screen.)

Jonathan Harris - Rory

Jono

Jonathan Harris is an actor, model, singer and dancer who is currently studying music and acting. He is a fresh new emerging talent who is bringing his own unique take to the character of Rory.

Emma Kinane - Miriam

Emma Kinane is an actor and writer whose TV/Film credits include Outrageous Fortune, Spies and Lies, Reservoir Hill, Darren Exists, The Killian Curse, Coverstory and Willy Nilly. She has recently played the lead roles in two feature films; Births, Deaths and Marriages and Upstage.

Emma Robinson - Stella

Emma is a producer, director and actor based in Wellington. Emma has extensive acting experience and has directed a number of educational and dramatic films.

 Stretch Goals

In the event that we go over the requested funding amount, we are offering the following stretch goals.

  • $3200 - If we reach this total every pledge of $20 will receive a digital copy of the pilot episode script to Conan's upcoming comedy web series "Two Naked Gay Guys" - every pledge of $50 or more will get digital copies of scripts for the entire season.
  • $3500 - If we reach this goal, we will also provide exclusive content for the filming of Out with Mum to everyone who has pledged $20 or more. This will include cast interviews and behind the scenes footage through the post shoot process.
  • $4000 - In the event that we reach this goal, every pledge of $20 and above will get exclusive first view access to the "Two Naked Gay Guys" webseries along with exclusive behind the scenes footage from the series as well as an exclusive thank you video from the cast. This is in addition to the special thanks video that Call Out  - Special Friend offers.
  • $4500 - If it looks like we'll get this far, I'll post an additional stretch goal that will make it well worth the time.

Update the - WAHOO WE'RE FUNDED!

18/03/2015 at 7:12 AM

Talk about a great wake up call!

So thanks to some awesome support last night we are now completely funded. But there's still a day and a bit to go before the campaign is completed and we still have Pledgeme and credit card fees to cover.

Also I still have four executive producer credits and two double passes to the early film screening up for grabs.

So because we're funded, I've lowered the prices on those rewards considerably. (Although not so low as to negate anything that people have already pledged.)

If you want to upgrade your pledge to take advantage of these lowered rewards, check them out. I'd love to be able to see some of you at the screening!

And I just want to say thank you to everyone who has pledged. You're support means a lot to us. And I promise, a dancing video is on its way. :D

Now here's Brandt giving a goofy grin.

Update Five: Getting closer

17/03/2015 at 10:03 PM

Hey there everyone!

We're getting so close! Only $400 to go before we make it to the end.

As an added incentive, if we get to $2800 before midday Thursday, Brandt and Jono will do a celebratory dance for us. Both guys are good dancers so it should prove to be a fun video to share with all our awesome pledgers.

So tell your friends that by helping us out, they'll get to see two adorable guys do some adorable dancing.

Today has been a busy day for me. Arranging gear and crew for the shoot this Sunday. Plus meeting with our wardrobe advisor and doing more rehearsing. It has been a very hectic day.

The rehearsals are looking great and we're all laughing and having a fun time preparing. The cast are doing an amazing job breathing life into the characters.

We're extremely excited to get this film made.

So before I sign off here is a cast photo from today's rehearsal. We're all looking forward to showing you what we've been working on and you've been pledging your money towards.

Update Four: Walking the Waterfront

16/03/2015 at 6:24 PM

We're almost at the end of the campaign and we just need $550 more to get to the finish line.

Help us out folks! Share our pledgeme with your friends and ask them to just pledge $5. We can do this together!

The cast and I did a walk along the Wellington Waterfront on Sunday to prepare for this weekend's shoot. We were sharing the space with people present for dragon boat racing, so some fun moving around was to be had.

I've included a short snippet of video. Unfortunately the microphone wasn't working so it's just a visual, and Brandt was unable to join us for the walk through so our ever helpful Mel stepped in for Jono to be able to work with.

We're all on track for shooting this Sunday and have two more rehearsals to go. I'll post more from those rehearsals.

So I'll leave you with a picture of Jono practicing his bad boy stance and look forward to giving you more updates as the week counts down. Remember, the pledgeme campaign ends 19th March. We need $550 more. Talk to your friends. Get them to check out our videos. This is going to be a fun and fantastic film!

Update the Third - Too Naked

05/03/2015 at 8:50 AM

Hi everyone!

Well we're not even half way through the pledgeme campaign and already we're over halfway funded! Remember that there are some great stretch goals if we get over the funding.

I've also added a new tier - Too Naked To Be Out - this is a great deal where you'll get a digital copy of the Out With Mum script and the script to the pilot episode of my upcoming comedy webseries Two Naked Gay Guys. Not only that but you'll get VIP access to the webseries, which means you get to see the finished show ahead of public release.

In other news, Mel and I met last night to discuss production details for Out With Mum. We're on track to shoot the film in a couple of weeks. This weekend we'll be scouting out the location. I'll post some pictures here for all pledgers and followers. We've discussed the shoot with Film Wellington who have given us their stamp of approval and once we've done scouting we'll be applying for permits.

Here's hoping the weather holds up for the shoot date.

I'll have more updates soon! In the meantime, keep sharing the PledgeMe link and help us get more people involved!

Halfway there and potential stretch goals

02/03/2015 at 4:37 PM

Well we're now halfway to being funded. So thank you to all our pledgers so far! This is great news!

We still have seventeen days to go and you can help us by spreading word about the campaign.

Of course we want to sweeten the deal a little for you. So here's some stretch goals.

  • $3200 - If we reach this total every pledge of $20 will receive a digital copy of the pilot episode script to Conan's upcoming comedy web series "Two Naked Gay Guys" - every pledge of $50 or more will get digital copies of scripts for the entire season.

This is in addition to the special thanks video that Call Out  - Special Friend offers.
  • $4500 - If it looks like we'll get this far, I'll post an additional stretch goal that will make it well worth the time.

So help us get this little film made! The more people we have pledging the more we can do and the more rewards we can offer.

Cheers!
