Pink Ribbon Calendar Girls

Project 2012-07-16 06:28:36 +1200

‘One in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime – that’s 7 women a day"   NZ Breast Cancer Foundation

"Pink Ribbon Calendar Girls" involves body painting NZ women affected by breast cancer and turning the resulting artwork into a high quality, glossy 2013 calendar.

Our goal is to sell the calendar to increase awareness about breast cancer in NZ and to raise $100,000 for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).   However, we need $10,000 first to cover print and production costs and to get this baby of the ground!

So what's special about this calendar?

The "Calendar Girls" range in age from 28 to 70 years old and include well-known Kiwis Jools Topp, Helena McAlpine, Liz Mitchell, Kat Wong, Anne Thorp and Hinewehi Mohi.  ALL of the women have been affected by breast cancer.

The calendar images are a collaborative effort between the model, body painters, photographers and graphic designer:

Each woman chose imagery to highlight their own strengths, passion and purpose.  A team of NZ’s top body painters then worked to capture this essence and transfer it onto the model’s body.  Finally, the photographer and graphic designer created the setting for each image and ensured there was a flow from month to month.

While the calendar is a designed as a beautiful piece of art, each month holds a much deeper message. The themes include those of strength, determination, family, courage and more, while also being a constant reminder to Kiwi women to get regular breast checks.

The calendar will be launched at an exclusive event in Auckland in the first week of October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month).  Life size calendar images will be on display at the event and then taken on tour around NZ.

Who's behind the "Pink Ribbon Calendar Girls" project?

This project was started by two Auckland women: Liz Oliver, an Auckland business woman and breast cancer survivor, and Anna Molineux, a professional body painter.  Liz & Anna hope that this project will not only raise funds for the NZBCF, but also increase awareness about breast cancer in this country.  Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Kiwi women and it is a detectable disease.  Regular checks & mammograms save lives.

Please note:  All of the wonderful people involved in this project have volunteered their time and expertise for free.  This is so all the money raised can go to the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
