Little Bird - Little Help?

Project 2015-02-12 17:54:46 +1300

Little Bird has an exciting announcement:

The Unbakery is coming to Britomart!

We have secured a wonderful (and tiny) space on Customs Street East to create a take-out only version of our unbakery.

Here we will serve an awesome range of ready to go breakfasts, lunches, dinners as well as our famous desserts cabinet. in addition we will be launching a new range of cold pressed juices, nut milks and tonics, made by us and full of nourishing organics goodness.

Little Help?

While our new unbakery is very exciting news, it is also a little stressful. Little Bird has previously been supported by an ethical finance company called Prometheus Finance.

However the day we signed the lease for our new location was also the day we found out Prometheus had gone into voluntary recievership. This is a real bummer for all customers of Prometheus, and a massive loss for social lending in NZ. For Little Bird, it means no more access to finance. Little Bird owners Megan May and husband Jeremy Bennett have long ago invested their life savings into the company, and are hoping the amazing little bird community might now like to get involved!

The little bird story

Little Bird makes healthy food, that doesnt compromise on flavour. We produce pacaked cereals, macaroons, crackers and trail mix, and, we run two crazy little cafes serving raw, vegan, organic, gluten free, refined sugar free, dairy free deliciousness.

Begun by Megan May in 2010 as a way to restore her own ill health, little bird has slowly built a most amazing and supportive customer base. We do our utmost to ensure the food we produce is of the highest possible quality and tastes incredible. We make everything from scratch, using organic plant-based ingredients. We make our own raw breads, coconut yoghurt, nut cheeses, coconut bacon, nut milks, sauerkraut, raw chocolate... we do this so our customers get the best possible nutrition and flavour from the food we serve.

We figure if you are going to offer a healthy alternative you may as well offer the best damn meal anyone can find.

Its a massive effort to produce food in this way, but we love it, and we love that our customers love it too.

What next?

We are doing as much as we can right now to get the space ready. With your help we will be able to pay for the big load of extra equipment we will need to operate the location. (This stuff aint cheap!) We need refrigerated display cabinets, fridges, freezers, blenders, mixers, scales, dehydrators, more fridges....

And then?

Hopefully we can achieve our funding target, (which will be awesome!), but there is still a bunch of extra stuff we need to hustle for. We will be producing a few hundred organic cold pressed juices each day (!) and we need to get this operation ready to go. We need several pallets of bottles, printing, sinks, shelves, more fridges... our stretch goal is $55,000, and anything over the $30,000 minimum target will go towards our organic juicing extravaganza.

Whats in it for you?

Oh my God, seriously, we have put together a bunch of killer rewards, something we hope will cater to every little bird fan, from Auckland locals to long distance kiwi supporters and even to the global bird lovers all across the world. Have a look at the rewards listed on the right  and see what might tickle your fancy. Everything has been set with special pricing, so not only are you supporting us, but you are also getting some great deals!

Megan, Jeremy and all the crew at little bird would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign.

We are so excited and humbled by the response.

We will be working hard to get everyone their rewards as quickly as possible, some we will be able to get out very soon, others may take a little longer. We hope to be able to get in contact with you all ASAP to let you know time frames and confirm details for those who need to make product choices etc.

Pledge Me takes a few days to compile and send us all the pledges and contact details for everyone (all 843 of you, that's gonna be a big list...), and they can't do this until the campaign closes (which it now has).

So hang tight everyone, we will be sending out goodies as quick as we can. (We are also working intensely on getting the Unbakery Britomart open, so we have our work cut out for us...)

And keep an eye out for the opening date of the Unbakery Britomart, maybe in 2-3 weeks!!

Thank you all one more time for your help.

Jeremy, Megan, and the 64 other little birders.

You are all Awesome.

Thanks so much to all the Pledgers, for all the support you have given to the campaign and to us.

Its pretty humbling actually. I only realised that there was a whole bunch of messages under the Pledgers tab (under the video above) in the weekend. I read through them all, and got a bit teary... (dont tell anyone).

Seriously though, we had no idea what little bird would grow into when we started, and the fact that so many have been so quick to help out... this company has changed our lives and continues to surprise us in wonderful ways!

So, we have reached our target, very exciting. Look out Britomart!

We are still taking pledges obviously, and there are still a bunch of great deals there. The total cost of setting up Britomart is around $100,000 (ouch), so all extra help is very much appreciated.

Once again, thank you everyone for your support, it looks like we are going to be busy in our tiny little city shop - we will do our best to keep up.

Jeremy, little bird.
