About

TeamNZ To Battle!

Project 2012-07-10 02:01:40 +1200

We are the Knights who say “Kia Kaha”, a group of dedicated sportspeople who want to bring this sport to our country.  For this campaign, to represent our country, we want to attend the International Battle of the Nations Festival, to be held in Europe in April 2013. The Knights are working hard at improving their fitness, stamina, combat-readiness and sheer awesomeness. They are getting armoured up for this event in their most protective, if not their most shiny, armour.

There is some coin in the treasure chest, but we are in need a weeny bit of help. This is where you can assist!

The Battle of the Nations is an international Medieval historical re-enactment festival, which involves controlled-blow heavy combat - one versus one, five versus five and group combat. It is thrilling to watch and thrilling for combatants to participate. As the NZ team prepare, they are meeting around the country and sparring here. If you can help get the team to Europe, you may be interested in watching the combat in New Zealand. Or, you could give a Knight your ‘colours’ to fight for. We are very proud to be representing NZ in full contact, submission bouts in plate harness, circa 1400-1500. We yearn for the chance to test - to discover how it must have felt to the fighters of the past -  Battle of the Nations is the nearest anyone can get to experiencing "real" battle, either as a combatant or as a spectator. Find out more about team NZ: www.BotNNZ.org

The Knights who say "Kia Kaha"  have been preparing themselves for year - they participate in a variety of martial arts and now need donations to transport the men, their weapons and their support crew. If our team represents well, the international fighters may be willing to travel here for a future tourney in NZ.  How did the invite to join BotN in Europe come about? The invitation to this highly prestigious event was made; the preparations began; one lone NZ Knight travelled to Poland last year, to observe, and was welcomed. The team would be honoured to represent NZ, as much as any All Black is proud to represent in rugby. Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BattlenatioNZ

We chose to ask for crowd funding, because it offers everyone the chance to be involved in projects. Our potential supporters are widespread around the world, but for as little as $5NZ they can help. Our participation is a very new thing and on a practical level we need to raise funds to get heavy gear and muscled Knights to the other side of the world! See more about BotN team NZ and international links at www.BotNNZ.org

The project will be viable from: $4,000 - which will assist towards getting our representative to BoN (singular) $15,000 - which will get a ‘Lance’ to Europe (two Knights and a squire) $45,000 - will get a ‘Fraternity’ to Europe (five or six Knights, two squires) $100,000 - will get a ‘Melee team’ to Europe (21 combatants/crew)
