It Ends With The Sea
Project 2015-01-13 09:28:05 +1300
Kitsch Bitches duo Lucy Bennett and Luke Wilson are back at The Basement for Auckland Fringe 2015 with their brand spanking new play, It Ends With the Sea— and they need your help to make it celestial!
Like Wild Beasts in 2013, It Ends With the Sea is unusual.
This play does not take place in the theatre. It Ends With the Sea takes place by the sea, sometimes in the sea, with the rush of waves playing in your ears and the scent of saltwater in your nose. But the sea will not enter The Basement of her own accord. She needs to be coaxed, bribed. And this is where you, our generous pledgers, come in.
It Ends With the Sea plays out in an abandoned beachside structure that the girls who have come to squat there affectionately call Castle. We have budgeted $800 to help us build Castle, to bribe the sea and to feed and clothe the girls, and we would like to raise it by Monday February 2. When our work is complete, the audience will feel as though they are seated in the shoals, immersed in the salty sea and the fantastical obsession the girls form with her.
You can pledge a little or a lot, every tiny bit helps, and our gratitude will be as vast and limitless as the sea herself!!
For your generosity, you may also choose to be rewarded with worldly (or are they otherworldly?) goods and services. Check out our rewards and remember, rewards are cumulative!

WHO ARE THE KITSCH BITCHES
Kitsch Bitches is an aesthetic, but it is also a duo.
Lucy Bennett and Luke Wilson, the founders and collaborators of Lucy & Luke Create, are the Kitsch Bitches.
Kitsch Bitches is what they really wanted to call their theatre company, but they were worried it might not be PC, so for now, they call themselves Lucy & Luke Create, but in their heart of hearts, they will always be the Kitsch Bitches.
The Kitsch Bitches are all about making theatre that is immersive and poetic. You could say they are in the business of creating worlds.
Their last play, Wild Beasts, was performed at The Basement as part of Auckland Fringe 2013. It took place inside a giant, home-made tent made of bedsheets and strung with fairylights, and it sold out every night.
Lucy is a writer/producer/director/maker/student/gallery assistant.
Luke is a director/actor/producer/student/theatre usher/retail assistant.
Both Lucy and Luke live many lives.

We're so happy to announce that we have succeeded in reaching our Pledge Me target! Thank you to all our amazing pledgers who helped us get over the line! And to all of those who have yet to pledge, you still can! Every dollar helps to make this production Fringetastic. For now here is a photo of some starfish dancing for joy, much like Lucy and I are right now.

Just 2 days and $15 away from all our dreams coming true!
Please remember that if we go above and beyond our goal of $800 our set will be EVEN BETTER and our posters will go EVEN FURTHER and our smiles will be EVEN BIGGER!!
As both thanks and motivation to those who are yet to pledge, here is a retro picture of Luke & I, circa 2010, looking only mildly chuffed. If we go over $800, I will post a present day picture of us looking as OVER THE MOON as we will be!!

HOT PLEDGES IN THE SUMMERTIME
27/01/2015 at 6:32 PM
We are well over halfway to our goal of $800, but with only 6 days to go things should be hotting up and we are thirstily awaiting more pledges!!
To inspire you all to dig deep, here are some photos from Saturday's rehearsal at YES Collective on K rd. For those of you in Auckland, you will know just how hot and balmy a day it was, but despite the heat our dreamboat cast were on top form!
As you can see, we are still without a set (although YES always has some spontaneously fabulous set up to give rehearsals a bit of atmosphere), so your generosity is still very much in need! And again, for those of you who have pledged already, we are in love with you!!
Enjoy the photos, enjoy the sunshine, please pledge!!

To all of you who have pledged thus far, an enormous THANK YOU!!! You are what makes our world go round.
We had forgetten the excitement of checking our emails and seeing those friendly waves from Pledgeme informing us that another angel has sent some good wishes and cash money our way!
In thanks for your generosity/godliness, here is a sneak preview from our It Ends With the Sea photoshoot!!
