Help 15 Year Old, Ohakune Snowboarder, Dylan Story, Rise To The Next Level

Project 2014-12-02 19:58:49 +1300

The mecca of snowboarding awaits Dylan, you can help him move one step closer to his dream of representing NZ at the 2017 Winter Olympics.

Dylan has his sights set on a Ruapehu-based academy trip to Colorado Training Camp in Januaury 2015. Dylan hopes the 5 week camp, with his coach, at some of the best parks in the world will be a huge stepping stone towards his goal of becoming a professional snowboarder.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE DYLAN’S DREAM INTO REALITY!

Dylan needs to raise nearly $10,000 for the trip, however, his fundraising efforts are well under way:

“I am willing to beg, borrow and work my arse off to get to this camp; I’ve worked the season in rentals up the mountain; I did a sausage sizzle outside an Ohakune ski shop each weekend and ran a donut caravan over the holidays, last weekend we sold coffee from my Dad’s Kombi at a local motocross event, we have multiple raffles on the go, we are selling everything we don’t need on trade me, I’m even willing to sell my motorbike and jump bike to get on that plane”

Dylan's Story

Even with all that effort, along with as much financial support as Dylan’s family can afford (given Dylan has four siblings) we are still $4,000 short

Here’s what Dylan has to say about himself:

"Hello I’m Dylan Story. I just turned 15 and have been snowboarding since I moved to Ohakune in 2010. Snowboarding is my passion. For the past 2 years I have participated in the Ruapehu Snow Sports Freestyle Academy; which means I get to go up the mountain twice a week for freestlye training with profession coaches. This focus and discipline has greatly improved my snowboarding. It’s also been a huge committment for me: I have to get up early, regardless of weather, I’ve learnt to be orgainsed with my gear; but mainly it has taught me mental endurance, determination and to stay positive. Physical strength is important to; I train 5 days a week at the gym after school. also keeping up-to-date with my school work by doing evening study. Although has been challenging at times, it has been an amazing experience and has made me even more determind to become a professional snow boarder.

Recently I have found out about a freestyle camp In Colorado (USA) that runs for 5 weeks over January. This is the first year that snowbaording has been offered and it will be coached by Tyler Kirk one of the free style coches from Ruapehu. The camp cost is $5000 US ($7500 NZD). The costs cover 5 days a week park and powder riding, training, actitivites on any off days that are unique to Colorado, accommodation and food. I also hope to go the "Big Air" X games competition and watch some of my idols compete. The return flights are not inclusive and cost an additional $2500. I will also need to take some spending money as well as covering the cost of insurance, return travel to Auckland, passport etc.

I am so stoked and excited for the oppurtuinity to attend this camp, but to enable this to happen I need to be able to come up with the funds. I have worked hard, but still need $4000 to make the trip. PLEASE HELP ME with whatever you can afford, then one day you might see me competing at the Winter Olympics and say to yourself: “I help put him there."
