Inspired people, new ideas, innovation and exciting performance are the lifeblood of theatre practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. BATS Theatre’s Purpose/Kaupapa is to provide a supportive, professional and accessible theatre venue that fosters the development of practitioners, audiences and New Zealand performance work.

Following the success of their debut NZ musical, Society Slump Superstars, Fresh Dada presents "LITTLE TOWN LIARS", a new musical written and directed by recent NZ School of Music graduate Joshua Hopton Stewart.

"Louisiana, 1956. Tonight is the Halloween fair and the town is a buzz with excitement. The Austin Twins – Belinda and Jake, along with their good friend Shirley, venture into the woods to take what they think are just innocent herbal pills. 3 days later, they wake up. What begins as a simple cover up, quickly snowballs into a case of mass hysteria within the town, where the excuse “I was abducted by aliens” becomes the popular tactic to cover up one’s wrongdoings."

Little Town Liars will be on at BATS Theatre for an 8-show season in January 2013.

How can you help?...

After the success of our first show, we are asking for some financial support from our PledgeMe friends to help fully realise the show and take this production to the next level! All cast and crew are in it for the love of the art so all the money we raise will go towards production costs such as set, costuming, marketing, and rehearsal space hire.

About the creator...

Joshua Hopton Stewart was born and raised in sunny Nelson where he was bought up playing piano and singing in school choirs, which led to him being accepted into the NZ Secondary Students Choir, and later, the NZ Youth Choir. In his final year at Waimea College, he became very interested in music composition and decided to follow this path of study at the New Zealand School of Music. He celebrated his graduation with his debut musical, Society Slump Superstars, which he wrote and directed. The show sold out their entire season with great response from the audience, and his second show, Little Town Liars, has been accepted into the BATS programming for 2013 for an extended 8-show season.

About Fresh Dada...

Fresh Dada was founded in August 2011 and aims to provide opportunities for up-and-coming performance and production artists. Our cast and crew is always made up of an eclectic bunch of people from all different backgrounds and experiences, all working together to create fresh and exciting new New Zealand musical theatre works, written by kiwis, performed by kiwis, performed for kiwis.
