Saskia Needs To Be In Peru!

Hey! Firstly, thanks for coming and checking out this project!

The short story is I need to get to Peru. 

The medium story is that I will be leading a delegation of New Zealand Youth to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (held in Lima) in December this year, but I cannot afford this trip!

The long story. 

In 2013 I went to the UN Climate talks in Warsaw. This was an amazing experience, it challenged me like never before and I can honestly say I am a different person from going.

In 2014 I made the decision to pursue a Masters of International Studies at the University of Otago, Dunedin. This course has given me the opportunity to analyse Climate Change from so many different angles - including legal, economic and security. Most importantly, under this Masters program I am researching how Youth are involved, and can be involved in this process in order to increase their effectivness. Getting myself to Lima is crucial to my research - and I am so lucky to have been offered the role of Head delegate and be able to access the negotiations (as not everyone can access these negotiations). On a more personal note. I have been planning/thinking about this trip for a while. The person who I talked to most about this trip was one of my best friends, Aunty May. If you know me, and my family personally, you will know that she was an amazing and beautiful women whose positivity was infectious. Everytime I had doubts about going to Lima, Aunty May's would be there, supporting me. Aunty May passed away not too long ago, and while there are so many more reasons for me going to Lima, her and my memories of her are still such a crucial part of my decision to go. 

The maths

At a minimum attending this conference will cost me $5300.

As a student, this is a large amount of money.
