Collab Project with The Basement
The Basement is a home for Auckland’s most adventurous emerging artists.
We would like to introduce you to DAY AFTER NIGHT, a brand new original New Zealand Musical written and composed by Benjamin Cleaver.
It’s a pop-rock Musical love story about two gay men – Harry and David - combined with drag, fantasy, and caffeine. Harry has a dream. He wants a BABY. His partner David can't think of anything worse.
Day After Night is hitting Auckland’s Basement Theatre for a two week season: 18-29th September. Presented by Theatre of Love, our team includes Musical Director Paul Barrett (Tic Tic, Songs for Guys), Choreographer Lydia Zanetti (Sweaty Hearts Productions), and Director/Producer James Wenley (Jailbait, The Who’s Tommy Rock Musical).
We are using PledgeMe and Crowdfunding to appeal for support to help us stage the Musical to its full and fabulous potential.
If you want to nourish new theatre work, are a Musical Theatre fan, or a supporter of Gay Rights, read on to find out why we need your support, what you can do for us… and with some super rewards, what we can do for you!
Tell us more about Day After Night…
Harry wants a BABY. His partner David is more interested in the cute guy who serves him coffee. Blanche is an earth mother with performance ambitions. They’re searching for love, friendship, sex, and a way out. It’s a story of today, a story of gay love.Featuring a catchy, original musical score, camp flair, and lots of heart.
Want a super sweet sneak listen to one of the show’s songs? Sure you do! Hit the link to hear writer/composer Benjamin Cleaver’s performance of the song that opens the show: Pretty Girl.
Why do we believe in this Musical?
Benjamin has written an entertaining and poignant script and songs about characters searching for love in the wrong places that we can’t wait to share with you.We love Musical Theatre, and we don’t believe there are enough original New Zealand Musicals being produced. We’re excited about getting new work out to the Musical Theatre audience!
We feel strongly about the queer themes in the Musical. Day After Night comes at a time of growing awareness and a push for equal rights for gay marriage and adoption. One of the big issues Day After Night highlights is that same-sex couples are unable to adopt children. We hope that Day After Night will do its part to continue this conversation.
Why do we need your help?
To produce Day After Night, our budget needs to pay for items including Venue Hire, Marketing, Lights, Sound, Set, and fees for our professional cast and crew. For professional productions, Ticket Sales generally are unable to cover all the many expenses. We are extremely grateful for funding support from Auckland Council’s Arts Alive Scheme. However, this only goes towards some of the show’s costs and their funding is conditional on us raising more. So that makes Crowdfunding even more important!
What you can do for us
If Day After Night sounds like a show you’d like to see and support, consider pledging us some money. All contributions – single digits, double digits, triple digits and beyond – will be gratefully received!Every donation counts to get us towards our goal of $3000. And here’s where it gets super exciting (or nerve wracking)… if we don’t meet our target, we don’t get the money (and nothing gets taken from your account). So that’s why your pledge is so important! Or if you know someone who might be interested in supporting a project like this, please pass it onto them too!
What we can do for you!
To thank you for your donation, we are offering different rewards. Check out the super rewards on offer to the right for pledging your money, including CDS, DVDs and show tickets! So what are you waiting for? Support new theatre work - pledge to Day After Night – we’ll love you forever, and have your babies!
