'Warriors of the Global Revolution' is a web-TV series giving voice to visionaries in activism and politics in New Zealand. We aim to create a first in Kiwi television by giving the public insight into activism and political events both from ground level and "behind the scenes".
Written, directed, produced and hosted by Occupy NZ Media Team, key figures we have interviewed in the past include Marama Davidson, Kim Dotcom, Selwyn Manning, Russell Norman, Phil Goff, Laila Harre, Joe Carolan, Mike Treen, Hone Harawira, Sue Bradford, Chris Yong, Boots Riley, Martyn Bradbury and John Minto.
Our all-volunteer group is at the cutting edge of new media in New Zealand - indeed we are the activists behind the success of many viral Kiwi hashtags including #TPPANoWay, #NZ4Gaza, #GCSB, and many others.
We have accumulated thousands of followers and our work has been carried internationally, including by RT.com. Covering over 100 live events in the last three years, we have earned access to a who's who of Kiwi politics and activism, amassing a huge pool of raw, uncut, unedited video, thousands of photographs and dozens of interviews that are just begging to be molded into something really cool.
With your help, we will be able to fund production of an hour-long pilot episode introducing the concept, and will contain the first of a series of professionally shot and edited documentary-style sit-down interviews with well known Kiwi activists, politicians and entrepreneurs, framed by our treasure trove of live event footage.
Laila Harre described us best, when we interviewed her live at the Moment of Truth press conference, backstage.
"What you people do is provide the base of understanding that then allows this level of information to penetrate, and be shared." - Laila Harre, speaking to @OccupyNZ at #MoT
Our budget will cover the costs of obtaining new footage with professional cameras, editing and post-production for the pilot episode. Promotional work, social media and amplification will be undertaken by volunteers.
A win for this project will be a win for the rights of New Zealanders to have access to groundbreaking investigative journalism, enabling them to bear witness to events as they really are!
Expected time-frame for completion: 26th January 2015
