About

Aspiring Leader

Project 2012-06-10 21:15:28 +1200

One year ago I founded a not for profit organisation in Palmerston North called Just Zilch - Palmerston North's Free Store. Our aim is to love unconditionally by redistributing surplus food to anyone in need. Since then we have served over 16,000 people and given out over 60,000 items of food. We now also have a community garden so that there are fresh vegetables available and a mobile service for those who are unable to get into the shop.

Now I have been nominated for the Aspiring Leader Fourm in Wellington at the end of July. The nomination means that I receive a significant discount, but still need to raise the rest of the funds.

"The Aspiring Leaders' Forum is an annual four day event that brings together the brightest, most committed and courageous young leaders from across all sectors and towns in New Zealand. It is run largely by a community of volunteers, which continues to grow after each successful event. The Aspiring Leaders' Forum on Faith and Values attempts to bridge the growing divide between our nation's young people and its leaders as they come together in Wellington to debate and discuss the ideas and philosophies of leadership. While Members of Parliament host the Forum, the focus is not purely politics: it is about encouraging young people to be better leaders in the areas of society they are engaged in, be it the arts, business, politics or sport."

I believe this is a great opportunity not only for me to grow, but to continue to give back to the local community, particularly as Just Zilch continues to grow.
