Not long ago, our Director Tiernan received a message at 1:30 in the morning that made it hard not to wake the neighbourhood - our student short film, “Fork,” has been selected to screen at the Orlando Film Festival 2014 in Florida. It's the result of over a year's hard work, endless meetings, sleepless nights and Arthritis-inducing amounts of crossing our fingers - And it's not over yet...

We (Producer Georgea Staite and Writer/Director Tiernan Whitten) have been invited to Orlando Film Festival to represent the South Seas Film & TV School crew behind “Fork”, meet the best in the biz and fly the banner for New Zealand film. But with the festival under a month away we don't qualify for normal funding routes and grants. 

We've got just 3 weeks to raise enough money to make our dream a reality - and we can do it with your help!

 

About the Film

 

 

“Fork” is the story of a man and his conflict with an unseen voice which controls his every move.

Every day while walking home from work, Albi passes a fork in the road. The left fork leads him to the safe life; the life that he knows. The right fork leads to… who knows where? Albi wants to explore it, only he can’t. The voice won’t let him.

It’s a little story about a guy and his insecurities; about taking risks, overcoming your own misgivings and doing the dangerous thing every once in a while. We think that’s a story that everyone – from Auckland to Orlando – can get behind.

 

What We Need

$3600 for flights ($1800 per person)

Any extra raised would go toward accommodation and living costs while we’re there.

The film was all personally funded by Tiernan, made by students with equipment supplied by South Seas Film & TV School and a few generous friends. We managed that – now we just need a little push to take us to the next step!

 

What's In It For Me?

We've organised some goodies for you, our wonderful pledger, as thanks for your generosity. Check them out on the right! And Producer Georgea has offered a 'Thank You Service' if our pledge is successful. Upon reaching our target, she is indebted to you - whether it's buying you a drink or cleaning a room of your choice. It's like 'jinx' or 'shotgun not', except Georgea loses everytime!

 

About Us

It’s been Tiernan’s dream to be a storyteller since he first learned that was something you could actually do to make a living. Before attending film school, he wrote an 80,000 word manuscript over the course of two years, and has this year begun work on another novel, as well as co-created a webseries with fellow South Seas graduates. “Fork” is his first short film. 

While studying Journalism at the New Zealand Broadcasting School Georgea discovered a true passion - producing. Looking for somewhere to fuel her love and learning of production she found South Seas Film and Television School, and has never looked back. She's passionate about bringing great concepts to life, and works hard to make fantastic projects like "Fork" become a reality.

WE DID IT!!! (A post from Tiernan)

WE DID IT! Or more appropriately, you guys did it. Because of everyone who helped out … because of the over 50 people who pledged, who shared, who helped spread the word … because of pledges ranging everywhere from $5 to $500 … because of some amazing friends and family, as well as some insanely selfless strangers … because of ALL THAT, we not only hit our fundraising target, we blew $300 past it with four days still to go. Speechless. If I seem like I have it together right now, I promise you I'm a babbling mess in real life. I'm on the phone to Georgea right now and for once she can’t think of anything to say. I don’t know what to say myself because I wasn't expecting I’d even have to write this post for another few days, if at all. Honestly, honestly humbled. We know some amazing human beings.

To everyone, a huge and this-will-never-be-enough-to-express-our-gratitude THANK YOU. All your much-deserved Pledge Me rewards will be on their way to you once we get back from our trip. But first, WE HAVE TO GO TO ORLANDO. I CAN’T EVEN. I DON’T. WHAT.

THANK YOU to all the pledgers who've taken us over the $2000 mark in a just over a WEEK!! Tiernan and I are literally jumping for joy (as pictured in this recent photo).

Seriously though, it's astounding. Thank you to every single one of you for donating, what amazing generosity. 

And a wee reminder: if we don't reach our target, we don't receive any of your donations... so all pledgers won't be charged UNLESS we reach our goal on October 17th. It's a go hard or go home policy... but hey, YOLO
