Support Maddi In India

Hi people

 

For the month of October I am going to a rural area near Pune in Maharashtra, India. I will be volunteering for a charitable organisation that runs homes and schools for abandoned babies, girls, and women. This includes elderly women and widows, mentally, physically and socially disabled girls, children of sex workers, and children whose families are not able to keep them. They also run many schools, both pre, primary, high school and a vocational training school to help get the women trained in skills they can use to support themselves in society.

I’ve dreamed of this for years, especially as my Mama was from India. Before she died last year I promised her I’d go, and I’m excited to finally do it! I have a big passion for helping children and young people who have to deal with the tougher stuff in life, which is why I picked an organisation with the same goals.

This is not a typical “voluntourism” trip where I am going to a poorer county to try and offer all my wisdom (haha) and help- I just want to try and share some love with girls who haven’t had the easiest life, the same way I try and do here in sweet old NZ.

I will be going regardless the outcome of this attempt to raise funds, but I know some of you wanted to have the opportunity to back me so here it is!

Flavours of items can be adjusted to suit your desires and all can be made Gluten Free for all the especially sensitive individuals :) 

Baked goods will be handcrafted for you with love, on my return from India (December 5, 2014) and picked up or delivered at a date that suits you. Keep in mind that it will be nearly Christmas, so a perfect time to shout some goodies for the office! If you are outside the Canterbury region I'm afraid I will only be able to courier you something from Reward Section 2.

Budget: I need about $2,800 to cover my entire trip, including flights, food and board and country training. I am hoping to raise at least $1,000 with PledgeMe... a little goes a long way guys, and you get some of my amazing baking in return :)
