‘THE ALL SKATES’ Dreaming Of A World Cup Documentary

Project 2014-09-08 13:50:11 +1200

Roller Derby is still seen as an amateur sport but don’t try telling that to the women who are obsessively passionate about having the chance to represent New Zealand at the 2nd ‘Blood and Thunder Roller Derby World Cup’ in Dallas, Texas on December 4th 2014. Just 3 months away!

The All Skates is a documentary about Team New Zealand; a training squad of 30 hopefuls battling against each other for a final spot to represent their country in the Top 20 who will travel to Dallas, Texas.

For some of these women it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to represent their country on an international stage at the highest level of the most excellent sport, Roller Derby. This is a story about overcoming obstacles and making dreams come true on the Roller Derby track.

After 6 months of training around the country the final Top 20 Team NZ selection will be revealed in October 2014, this documentary follows the personal journeys of these skating hopefuls

  • MEAT TRAIN who has less than 20% hearing in one ear and looking to the future with total hearing loss
  • LADY TRAMPLE who is the founder of Chicks in Bowls and is connecting with her identity
  • TERROR SATANA & SKATE THE MUSS are sisters and are intensely passionate about this sport and are known as double trouble on the track
  • PRINCESS SLAYER who fights to come back from a ACL knee operation hoping to make the team selection in time
  • ORKAZZMIC who has a problem coming 2nd place and is determined to win at what ever she puts her mind too

This is a story about dreaming of saying that you are the best in your country, performing at your highest ability against in the best in the world when the Referee’s whistle blows.

The Director

Corinna Hunziker is also known as Hurricane Hori and in 2011 she was the Captain of Team New Zealand at the first ‘Blood & Thunder Roller Derby World Cup’ in Toronto, Canada. Having experienced the World Cup firsthand Corinna wanted to share this inspirational story of what it means to represent your country.

The Goal

This is an independent production it is self funded and has received no funding support. We have a small team on board for this project. Myself as Director/Producer/ Soundy and Evan Howell as Camera Operator and Natalie Hughes as the Editor, all money raised will go towards airfares and accommodation to get myself and Evan to Dallas, Texas.

The Goal is to get 650 people to donate just $10 for us to reach our target. These women are role models for ordinary women with extraordinary dreams.

We have been filming over the last 5months, we are over the halfway mark and we would love your help to finish this inspirational story. We need to Raise $6500 and I have a number of fundraisers during the month of September to support this goal but we are limited with time…

Your Pledge will go towards:

  • Flights for crew
  • Accommodation for crew

A Hori George Film would like to thank everyone who gives generously to support us, we believe passionately in this story and without your support we will be unable to capture this piece of New Zealand history.

Once again thank you for all your support and please help us to make this documentary.
