Sunset

A short film starring Adam Brookfield and Genevieve McClean, shooting in Auckland 24th - 28th September 2014.

Log Line

A rich man struggles to find his life's worth, whilst a poor, pregnant woman fights to give her baby life.

The Story

Sunset is a story of Ryan and Emily's parallel journeys to find help out of the pain and struggle to birth and raise their children.

Ryan, a wealthy Remeura man is overwhelmed by his impending bankruptcy and the recent death of his father. This leads him to question his self-worth and purpose. He abandons his family and takes a taxi with the intention of ending his life.

Emily, a poor and single, heavily pregnant woman, is alone on the outskirts of Auckland. Without communication or transport she can only rely on her inner strength to bring her baby into the world.

While Raj, in the taxi, concerned at Ryan’s odd behaviour, turns at the last minute and drives back to see what Ryan is doing.

Ryan and Emily don’t realise that they are only moments along the deserted road from each other as he drives towards them.

The three strangers all under the same sky are saved by the resilience of their spirit and their very human need to connect.

Why Help Us Make This Film?

You'd be investing in a filmmaker who wants to bring New Zealanders into the industry in the future.

I have a commitment to provide challenging and interesting parts for women and for fellow actors and I will continue to make films that encourage us to connect more.

You’d be supporting a writer/director who in future aims to be able to provide employment in films that reach a wide audience, address important social issues, both local and global, and most importantly inspires others to pursue their dreams also.

SUNSET will go into production September 25th 2014 through 28th. We will do our absolute best with the equipment resources we have at the screen production course like the 50mm and 100mm lens, lighting and the Sony FS700 camera. However your donation will help us get the production up and running with other essential costs. Your pledges will go towards:

  • Hire of Metabones Speed Booster adapter to fit lenses to our camera and for use in low light outdoors scenes where we cannot afford generators to power large lights.
  • Food to feed all volunteer cast and crew for 5 day shoot.
  • Petrol for a car-centric film shoot with lead camera vehicle.
  • Props, costumes, art department, SPFX make up.
  • Location costs, permits

Getting there!

16/09/2014 at 3:49 PM

I can tell you, the director is finalizing schedules, and costumes, locations, and crew.  The Film will be partly crewed by Kirsty's fellow Students and partly by other professionals.

It's getting petty exciting!  Adam will be coming up from Wellington, and we'll be underway.

We will make this film by hook or by crook, but we'd prefer the hook!

So please help us out and share this site on your networks, and remind people that their donations will all help to build the momentum we need to reach our funding threshold!

We really appreciate your support!  Thankyou

THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!
