About

Let's Find Out Who The CANs And The CANTs Are This Election!

Project 2014-08-22 11:07:02 +1200

This coming election, we need to elect leaders who CAN improve the living conditions of all our citizens, who CAN protect our environment and CAN work in a transparent and accountable way.

With just 28 days to go til the Election, people are starting to make up their voting minds.

ActionStation are on a mission to (1) find out who are the CAN’s and who are the CANT’s (click here for more info) and (2) get this information out to the masses. It’s a very crowded election space, so we’re gonna have to be both GENEROUS and CLEVER to get into the mainstream media.

We are going to build the Beehive out of CANs (like the pic above) on Parliament Lawns. The cans sculpture will represent hope for a Government that CAN create the change we are so desperate to see. We’ll invite the media to our stunt, and tell them about our vision for the next Government, and how voters can find out who CAN make it happen.

When we are done, we will donate these cans of food to the Wellington City Mission

How cool is that?! Stunts are a well-known tactic used all around the world to inspire, inform, excite and delight. Our ‘Pop-Up Parliament’ is designed to send a very clear & very visual message that we want a CAN-DO government and we will not settle for a bunch of CANT's. PLUS we get to help some of the most vulnerable members of our society out with a bit of kai.

CAN YOU CHIP IN $5, $8, $12 or $16 FOR A CAN OF FOOD? (we're buying organic!)

Our goal is to crowdfund $400 over the next 4 days (target is $420 to allow for PledgeMe fee).

Thank you so much for your support.

What a stunt!

Hello Pledgee's!!

A huge thank you for supporting this CANpaign, as you can see from the pic above it worked really well! The PledgeMe officially closed last night and we successfully raised 109% of our target in just 4 days which is pretty fantastic going and really shows that small actions x lots of people = awesome things.

A huge thank you as well to Commonsense & La Boca Loca for topping us up & donating some extra cans. We managed to donate them all to the wonderful people at the Wellington City Mission Food Bank (who were super happy to receive them!) and the food YOU donated will be used to cook meals for some of the most vulnerable members of our society in their kitchen. Good deeds all round!

So what's next?

Now that we've made our public statement about the need for a CAN DO government, we need not find out who are the CANs and who are the CANT's.

With the help of member input and allied organisations, we've got 15 specific policy questions we're putting to the political parties everyday over 15 days. We're using AskAway - an innovative online tool that empowers the public to ask questions directly to political parties and the candidates can choose to answer.

The questions with the most votes tend to get answered first so we need your help to 'upvote' the questions that matter most to you. Here are the questions we've posted.

Click here to take a minute to upvote one (or all) of our questions. It's super simple!

Thank you so much for your support of our work. Alone we are a drop, but together we are an ocean and I look forward to achieving so many more great things with your support.

PS: As a special thanks to you for being so awesome, Lesleigh from our team will be emailing you pics of your personalised CANs sometime today or tomorrow, so keep an eye on your inbox for that!

We're almost there!! Can you help us get this campaign over the line?

25/08/2014 at 10:01 PM

Thank you for being one of the early adopters & pledging on our first crowd-funded action! You rock!

As promised, tomorrow we’re going to build a model CAN Parliament out of food cans on Parliament Lawns, to represent our hope for a government that CAN create the change we so passionately want to see. We’ve invited the media to our stunt, and will tell them about our community’s vision for the next government, and how voters can find out who CAN make it happen.

COME ALONG IF YOU YOU'RE IN WELLINGTON. THE FACEBOOK EVENT IS HERE

Afterward, all the food cans will go to the Wellington City Mission to support some of the most vulnerable members of our society in Wellington. As you know, our goal is to crowd-fund $400 and we’re already almost there! Our community have already pledged over $300 and local businesses are donating an extra 50 cans!!

CAN YOU TAKE A MOMENT TO SHARE THE NEWS OF THIS EVENT & CAMPAIGN WITH YOUR FRIENDS BY SHARING THIS POST ON FACEBOOK TOO?

With your support and a good ol’ Kiwi CAN DO attitude we can ensure the voice of our community is heard. Our ‘pop-up Parliament’ is designed to send a very clear and visual message that we want a CAN DO government and we will not settle for a bunch of CAN’Ts.

A sincere thank you for your time & commitment to the good stuff,

Laura at ActionStation
