About

West Coast Youth Theatre Launch - WHEELERS LUCK

Project 2014-08-18 10:32:18 +1200

After workshops and classes with students here in Taranaki, I have seen the depth of talent and passion from young people hungry for more arts experiences. Growing up in Taranaki as a young aspiring actor myself, I never had these kinds of opportunities, so I am making one for those students who, like me, crave the chance to work on anything they can get their hands on; to give them an outlet for their creativity, enthusiasm and personal development.

So... I have taken the plunge to launch a Youth company and stage a professional standard public performance of WHEELERS LUCK in OCTOBER 2014, a classic NZ play, with the goal to take the initiative forward into a yearly production. I want to give young people here the chance to work on a collaborative theatre work in a company context; to learn, develop and share their passions for theatre in a small town where these opportunities are few and far between.

WHEELERS LUCK is the perfect platform, allowing us to use a pool of performers to play several characters, and to devise and collaborate on the way in which we choose to stage this riotous piece of Kiwi theatre!

I have the talent, and at this stage we are too late for nationwide funding, so to launch this show, I am looking to raise money towards our set, costume and marketing costs. A little goes a long way, I am beg borrowing and stealing to make this happen, and the support of the community, friends and professional colleagues will mean so much, however little you are able to give.

Already, I have had the generous support of 4th Wall Theatre, who are giving us a fully equipped theatre for little to nothing, and a team of professional technicians and local teachers giving time and experience in support of this project.

We are approaching local businesses for small sums towards additional costs (we need around $10,000 to make the show what I want it to be), and here I am only looking to raise $2400. If you were once a young performer wanting these kinds of chances, then give a little if you can. If you are passionate about fostering youth in healthy, creative ways like me, then please do support us. Anything and everything is appreciated, thank you!
