Bring Fanfare Home

Help Us Bring Fanfare Home to Christchurch!

Imagine entering Christchurch and seeing 360 waving fans of welcome spectacularly spread out over a 24 metre high and 20 metre diameter spherical sculpture that is lit up in a stunning array of colours. This is what we will bring to Christchurch.

With your help, Fanfare, by Neil Dawson, a bold, contemporary sculpture will be New Zealand’s largest public sculpture when it is installed.

In 2005, the City of Sydney commissioned Fanfare to be a part of their New Year’s Celebrations. Support the campaign to bring this iconic sculpture to the home of its creator, internationally renowned, Christchurch-born sculptor Neil Dawson.

In a time when Christchurch has lost so many of its landmarks, Fanfare will add a vibrant new identity to the Christchurch landscape and create a dynamic entranceway to the city for all to enjoy. Trust us, when you see this extraordinary sculpture, it will blow you away (don’t worry, not literally!)

So what do we need to make this happen?

On 1 June 2014, SCAPE Public Art had raised 89% of the total asset cost of Fanfare, $3.3m, and only had $360,000 to raise to install this incredible sculpture. Here is how we plan to find these final funds:

Firstly, we began our Fan Club Campaign where individuals and businesses are invited to join the Fan Club for memberships between $1,000 and $5,000. Here we are aiming to raise $310,000 by the start of October.

We want to invite the community to take part in our fundraising goal and we aim to raise $50,000 towards installing Fanfare in Christchurch through PledgeMe. This is where you come in!

And, if we can raise the total amount needed by the 13th October, we will be able to successfully install Fanfare at Chaney's Corner beside the Northern Motorway – so come on New Zealand, let’s bring Fanfare home.

Please note that we will not be able to send out all rewards until after Fanfare has been installed. But please don’t get disheartened – this is so that we can get you rewards with an authentic image of Fanfare in its new home!

Fanfare Brooch Reward

24/09/2014 at 1:50 PM

We bet you've been curious about what the limited edition Fanfare brooch looks like!

When you pledge $150, this is the brooch you'll recieve:

Created especially by Christchurch Contemporary Jewellery Designer, Jennifer Braithwaite. Jennifer's career is pretty amazing, having studied at the Central Saint Martins School of Fashion in London and worked for the likes of Miss Selfridge, WORLD and Andrea Moore.

She says of Fanfare “It is an honour to be involved with such an iconic Artist for the Fanfare campaign. The brooch I have made is a reflection and interpretation of Neil Dawson’s silhouettes and materials. I have tried to capture the essence of the sculpture with simplicity, yet allow for the transformation into a wearable shape. The brooch requires a level of interaction between wearer and object, with numerous options for placement in relation to the garment. “

Her jewellery is currently stocked at The National Contemporary Jewellery in Christchurch.
