About

DANCE LAB Choreographic ARTIST Residency And Open Performance

Project 2014-08-06 09:54:52 +1200

Dance Lab at BODY FESTIVAL 2014 - We are 75% there - help us cross the finish line!

So who are we?

We are Movement Art Practice - M.A.P creates opportunities for choreographic research and practice in New Zealand.  We provide workshops, master classes, discussions, residencies and performance platforms that nurture excellence in contemporary dance. Check out our Website Here for more information about us.

So what are we doing?

We are bringing Christchurch born (Melbourne based) dance artist Madeleine Krenek home to be our dance artist in resident.  Madeleine will be researching ideas for the first draft of her new dance work.  She will be working with five professional dancers and collaborating with acclaimed musician Greg Malcolm.

Dance Lab will run through-out the 2014 Body Festival in Christchurch and the most exciting thing is that Maddy's rehearsals will be open for public viewing.  So you can pop down and have a cuppa with us, meet the artists and watch the dancers in action.

We will be welcoming visitor feedback through-out the residency and will have a ‘virtual visitor book’ where you can write a response to the work on a sticky note or video it in our photo booth. Dance Lab is a new platform for artist and audience interaction with the aim of creating deeper understanding of our artform and the unique artists our community fosters.

So then what?

Come to our Dance Lab Open Performance see a showing of the material generated by Maddy and our team of professional dancers.  In addition, five of our local M.A.P choreographers: Julia Harvie, Phillipa Cosgrove, Sarah Elsworth, Nicola Collie and Julia McKerrow will also share their choreographic works in progress.  Dance Lab will feature 16 M.A.P dancers in addition to local musicians. This informal and fun evening of dance will centre around discussion and audience feedback - think a "behind the scenes" view of dance in the making.

Where will my funds go?

Your funds will go directly to supporting our artists so that they can be justly remunerated for all their hard work.

Rewards for Pledgers

Pledgers recieve their very own thank-you dance move wohooo! See rewards section for details.

*Dance moves will be filmed and e-mailed to you as well as shared on your/our social media page (Unless you are an anti-technology person, in which case contact us for other arrangements). Follow our campaign on Facebook to check out 'thank you dance moves'

Soo..If you love contemporary dance that tells our unique stories or would like to learn to love contemporary dance - we would really appreciate your support.

With thanks

Can you help us with the final push?

03/10/2014 at 1:08 PM

We only have four more days to get to our target - it's all or nothing. We only need to raise another $880 -  that's only $220 per day between now and our cut off.

We'd love your help. You, the wonderful people who already believe in, have engaged with, and pledged on our project. Would you share this campaign on Facebook or Twitter? Tell a friend? Send an email to someone who might be interested?

Thank you so much for what you've already done. We don't want your support and investement in M.A.P to go to waste - it's time for one last push!

All or nothing.

01/10/2014 at 10:58 AM

All or nothing is the phrase of the day here at M.A.P!

We are doing everything we can to make sure that all you wonderful pledges who have supported us this far are joined by a few more to get us across the finish line.

Don't forget to pop into St Michael's this week if you're in Christchurch. It's a great chance to see what we're up to. Open viewing every day. See http://www.movementartpractice.org/map-the-body.html for more details.

We've cracked two thirds!

29/09/2014 at 3:01 PM

We are very excited here at M.A.P HQ - we've cracked two thirds of our campaign! This is good news, as a large percentage of campaigns that make it over the 65% mark reach their target.

We have one more week, one more big push to get there. Thanks for pledging and keep on spreading the love.

Could this be your dance move?

26/09/2014 at 11:07 AM

Check out the M.A.P Facebook page for a look at dance moves in preparation for our pledgers - this could be your move!

We're almost two-thirds there. Thanks for your support!

To celebrate getting past the half way point...

24/09/2014 at 3:13 PM

Take a look at the cool e-flier for DANCE LAB. This is what you are supporting! The excitement is mounting.

Almost half way!

23/09/2014 at 12:16 PM

Wow - look what happened overnight. While many of us were hard at work with Julia Harvie, lots of you wonderful people were pledging on our campaign - thanks so much.

It's all hands to the pump at M.A.P now with our choreographers and dancers working towards not only this performance, but participating in and attending many of the events in the Body Festival. What a feast! It was great to have our artist in residence, Madeleine Krenek, working with us last night too.

Here's a photo from one of last week's rehearsals. We hope your interest is piqued!

Two more weeks!

22/09/2014 at 11:26 AM

Well now that the election has been and gone, we at MAP can promise you that your pledge on our campaign is guaranteed to get you the result you want: high quality, informative and interactive dance, plus a great array of rewards!

We are over a third of the way there with only two weeks to go. Thanks for supporting us and please continue to spread the word.

A new reward!

18/09/2014 at 2:35 PM

The Body Festival Opens this week

17/09/2014 at 10:40 AM

Will you be attending the 6am dance party to kick off the Body Festival? We are proud to be a part of this wonderful festival.

The exciting news for is is we're almost a sixth of the way to our target of $3000. However we don't get any of it if we don't reach our target. Thank you for pledging already to those who have. If you have time to share our campaign with your friends we would really appreciate that!

Hope to see you at 6am on Friday

Last night's rehearsal

12/09/2014 at 4:28 PM

We're just over four weeks from our performance date of October 11 and well over the 10% mark with our pledges. Thanks so much for supporting this wonderful project. MAP

Almost at 10%!

10/09/2014 at 3:15 PM
