About

Chile Bird

Project 2012-05-26 02:33:52 +1200

We want to produce a true story about a young female albatross from Taiaroa Heads who flew off and many months later crash landed on a fishing boat off the coast of Chile. The fishermen took her to a school on a nearby island and the school children nursed her back to health. Noting her leg band the school contacted the albatross colony. She eventually returned to NZ and raised her own chicks.

I am an author and illustrator and have permission from DOC and the albatross colony to produce this book. Wildfilm NZ has produced an awesome CD of albatross images set to music for the back of the book.

I have worked on or produced 18 books over the years forom 1997 on and my husband ( Jean-Claude ) and I have been self funding. He was made redundant 3 years ago and our dream of producing children's books on NZ endangered species, staring with Chile Bird, has ground to a halt.

For many years we worked voluntarily on medical mercy ships in the South Pacific and the book company has been our means of support. We live in the Cardrona Valley in Central Otago. I do the writing and illustrating and editing. Jean-Claude takes care of the finances and computer work.

We would like to print 2,000 books (a normal NZ print run) which in a full colour children's book is approx $7,000. We use local printers. We would like to use part of the proceeds of each book ( 10% ) to raise funds for the little school that helped Chile bird as we hear the school was badly hit in the recent earthquakes there.

You can check us out on our web site at www.trinitypublishingnz.com.

I have an International art award for drawing (New York) and have helped a number of authors get on their feet with their books.
