Rebecca Nelson - Album

Project 2014-06-18 23:28:52 +1200

Hi Everyone Welcome To My Project!

My name is Rebecca Nelson and I am here to tell you about my exciting new project.  The rumours are true I am about to record a new CD but I can't do it without your help!

For those of you who don’t know me I am a cross over classical singer born and raised in Christchurch but currently living in Auckland. I started off as a Busker and have had some great success since. Some highlights include touring Ireland with The Priests as their guest soloist, joining Will Martin on his South Island concert tour, singing National Anthems for a number of countries at International Rugby Test matches (including the All Blacks) and in 2011 I released my debut Album “Pure Imagination”

As some of you may know, this year I enlisted as a reservist in The Royal New Zealand Navy and had the honour of travelling to Gallipoli to sing at the Anzac Dawn Service. It was truly the trip of a lifetime and is the inspiration for my new Album.

The Album is going to have a strong military feel, with old war songs from the likes of Vera Lynn as well as inspirational numbers and will be released in time for the 100 year anniversary of Anzac Day

I have some great people on board, I will again be working with the talented Michael Bell at Orange Studio in Christchurch and we are teaming up with some amazing musicians from the Royal New Zealand Navy Band

This is where you come in…. I have started this pledge me campaign to raise the necessary funds required to make my vision a reality. There are some great Rewards on offer which you can view down the right hand side of the page. You can pre-purchase the album, choose from one of the other reward options or even just make a donation.

We have set the target at $10,000 but in reality the total cost of the album will be a lot more so if we can exceed the target it would be even better! Every dollar raised will go towards the production of this album.

Come on people lets spread the word ….

Thank you so much for all your support and your generous donations, this is a really exciting project and I will keep you all updated every step of the way

Musician Profile #6 Mark Hobson

29/09/2014 at 6:31 PM

Mark Hobson

Say Hello to the Saxiest member of The Royal New Zealand Navy Band - Mark Hobson. Mark is the very talented Saxophonist on my upcoming album.  Some of you may recognise Mr Hobson’s face from the days when he roamed the halls of Burnside High School as a teacher. This sax machine was originally based in Christchurch before moving to Auckland to join the RNZNB. In Christchurch He was the Artistic Director for the iconic Arts Centre of Christchurch lunchtime series up until the Centre’s closing in 2010/2011 due to the Canterbury earthquakes. As a teacher he worked annually with over one hundred students privately, in schools and at the University of Canterbury. This very talented man has featured performing solely New Zealand works at single reed conferences throughout Australia and World Saxophone conferences in Europe and Asia. Not many people are aware but Mark is one passionate fella, his passion you may ask? Dixie music, it is all about the Dixie! He is go go gadget man and was way ahead of the crowd with his fancy watch, he laughs at the I-Watch. Mark is currently “living on the North Shore and loving life” - Quote taken from a highly reputable source.

Musician Profile #5 Tom Chester

13/09/2014 at 8:34 PM

TOM Chester

Lock up your daughters folks I am about to introduce my next musician.

Meet this English gentleman - Tom Chester, the French Horn player on my upcoming album. Not only does Tom play French horn, he is also a skilled pianist and is working on a number of arrangements for the album - he is one talented dude! Tom is all the way from Manchester, he joined the Royal Marines at a young age and studied at the Royal Marines School of Music. In 2012 he moved to New Zealand where he joined the Royal New Zealand Navy Band. Tom was selected as one of the musicians from The Royal New Zealand Navy Band to head to Gallipoli for this year’s Anzac Day commemorations. He is the musical director for the North Shore Concert Band and it’s no secret Tom’s favourite instrument is the bagpipes. This English heart-throb is one stylish dude, he loves his tweed Jackets, is handy in the kitchen and loves a good glass of red. It happens to be Tom’s Birthday tomorrow so I’m sure you will all join me in wishing Tom a very Happy Birthday!

Musician Profile #4 Megan McFarlane

12/09/2014 at 10:07 PM

MEGAN McFarlane

Everyone say “Buenos días” to the gorgeous Megan McFarlane, the flutiest on my upcoming album. Megan studied a Bachelor of Music at the University of Waikato where she graduated with HONORS. After graduating, The Royal NZ Navy Band saw how talented she was and snapped her up straight away. In 2012 she was selected as part of the NZ contingent to travel down the River Thames during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee as part of the Royal Commonwealth Honour Guard which surrounded Her Majesty's barge. Her and Liz are basically BFFs! Not only is she an amazing musician but she holds her own in a male dominated environment that is the Navy. She was recently awarded the DUX in the Leading Rate Promotion course up against some stiff competition. Don’t be fooled by her tiny frame, and sweet demeanour this chick is one tough mudder! Megan is a workout machine, she can lift double her weight, runs half marathons and she has a truck licence! She also speaks a bit of Spanish, her favourite colour is purple and she has a weakness for mcflurrys. I am in awe of this lady, she never ceases to amaze me and I’m not just saying that because she is one of the directors at Sing School (which means she’s my boss!) She as an absolute star and an amazing friend.

Musican Profile #3 Owen Clarke

08/09/2014 at 11:30 AM

OWEN Clarke

Introducing my boss Lieutenant Commander Owen Clarke who is the Musical Director/Conductor of The Royal NZ Navy Band. He is the one tasked with the mission of keeping all of us musicians in line. Owen graduated from Vi...ctoria some years ago and has served 15 years in the NZDF, both with the RNZAF Band and now the RNZN Band. I first met Owen while busking on the streets of Devonport (he obviously recognises awesomeness when he sees it) where he asked me to work alongside and ultimately join the RNZN Band. Owen has a beautiful family, loves a good coffee, is the selfie king and owns a pony which is currently for sale if anyone is interested. He, alongside The Royal New Zealand Navy Band will be featuring on the upcoming album and although you won’t be able to see or hear him, you know his presence will defiantly be felt

Musician Profile #2 JESS Hix

07/09/2014 at 2:10 PM

JESS Hix

Everyone say “Hello” to this beautiful lady - Jess Hix. Jess is going to be the percussionist on my upcoming album. Another Christchurch born girl (brought up in the bustling metropolis of Rangiora), she studied a Bach...elor of Music, majoring in performance percussion at the University of Canterbury and has worked with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and percussion groups Pandemonium and Strike. Jess was one of the talented musicians who travelled to Gallipoli earlier this year to play at the ANZAC Dawn service and is currently on a tour of China and South Korea with the National Band of New Zealand. Jess definitely beats to the sound to her own drum, loves chocolate, has the uncanny ability to sleep anytime/anywhere and cuts some pretty sweet shapes on the dance floor. She lives by her favourite quote “To make memories, first you have to live them”

Musician Profile #1 Hayden Sinclair

06/09/2014 at 7:59 AM

I mentioned the other day on my facebook page that I will be doing profiles on the amazing musicians that are featuring throughout the upcoming album, but I dont want you to miss out if you are not on facebook.  Here is lucky #1

 HAYDEN Sinclair

Let me introduce you to Hayden Sinclair. Hayden will be playing Clarinet on my upcoming album. This talented young man graduated in 09 from the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington with no less than a HONORS degree. I first met Hayden back during our school yard days at Burnside High, it’s amazing how our paths have crossed years later with The Royal NZ Navy Band where he is currently the lead clarinet player. He is one talented dude, having worked with The Royal NZ Air Force Band and other awesome orchestras like the NZSO. Hayden loves a good glass of red wine (Pinot Noir is his drink of choice) and long walks on the beach, he is also the RNZNB limbo champion and has an amazing sock collection!!
