Fantasy. Action. Magic and sword fighting… What can possibly go wrong?
Well, just one thing - finances. As a small independent Christchurch theatre group, we do not have the much-needed financial support to bring our vision to the audience but we are doing our best to overcome this obstacle!
Having finished a successful season of the theatrical ghost story Whistle And I'll Come To You, NO Productions Theatre Collective (Nataliya Oryshchuk) is up to a new project. After the dark Edwardian ghost story we turn to a joyful and adventurous fantasy tale The Monster Wars, joining forces with the newly-formed La Errante Troupe: the skilful Colombian actors Natascha Diaz and Marlon Ortiz. With the eerie costumes created by the talented Rachael Travaille of MonstrositiesNZ, the show will also feature Christchurch circus performers Daniel Heaphy and Taryn Leathart. The soundscape will be created by Jazz School graduate Tom Harris and the set design will belong to Ailise O'Neill, a Fine Arts graduate from Belfast, Ireland. Our Christchurch group is a truly international bunch of creative people from all over the world: Ukraine, Colombia, Ireland and New Zealand.
The original script is written by Nataliya Oryshchuk. It features monsters, heroes and a mysterious reincarnation of the Pied Piper… This delightful story is aimed at audiences of all ages. We want to add a bit of colour and joy to the gloomy winter of post-earthquake Christchurch. Light-hearted ,yet touching, The Monster Wars is an entertaining and thought-provoking tale about love, hate, revenge and forgiveness.
We aim to premier the show on 17 August at Elmwood Auditorium, before taking it on tour around Canterbury schools. Our production budget includes the hire of the rehearsal space, the cost of materials for props and the set, as well as the cost of the venue and lighting equipment hire. We initiated this campaign to cover a portion of the production costs but even this modest target will significantly help our team to reach our goal and to bring our unique theatre production to the stage. We are offering a number of rewards to show appreciation for our donors' generosity.
