Hi. I'm Freya. At the beginning of 2012, I nearly killed myself. I was really depressed.

Fraser Chatham Photography

Sucks aye. It was a pretty rough time.

Luckily, with the help of my family, medication and couselling, I got better. I'm not cured, that's pretty much impossible, but I'm better than I was when I was in that horrible pit of darkness and despair.

I noticed that humour and honesty got me a lot of the way. But I also noticed that a lot of people aren't really very honest or frank about mental illness at all. We dare not speak it's name, and I think that puts lives in danger.

I figured if we don't make it okay to talk about, then people in that pit of despair aren't gonna want to mention it, and that's really dangerous.

So I did what every self-respecting white middle class person does when they have something to say: I wrote a damn play about it. I toured it to Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton. Some people quite liked it. Some wrote nice things about it and put it on paper or on the internet.

"Profound - and profoundly funny" - James Wenley, Theatrescenes, Auckland season

"A hilarious and oddly entertaining gift" - Nik Smythe, Theatreview, Auckland season

"Honest, brave and captivating" - Liza Kire, Theatreview, Hamilton season

"...mind-blowingly good" - Laura McQuillan, Wotzon.com, Wellington season

I'm really proud of this play. It makes people laugh and it makes people think. I would like some more audiences to see it and laugh think some more about mental illness and how it affects us and the ones we love.

So I'm gonna take the play to the Sydney and Melbourne Fringe Festivals, which will be held over September and October this year. But I need your help 'cause it costs heeeeeaps.

Here is a rough break down of the costs of touring

(in NZD)

Flights (Auckland > Sydney > Melbourne > Auckland) = $710 approx
Sydney Registration fees = $55 approx
Melbourne Registration fees = $410 approx
Venue Hire = $1500 approx
Accommodation x 2 weeks = $860 approx

Total = $3,525

There will be additional costs such as food (I might get hungry over those two weeks), the costs of staging (set, costume, props, etc.), additional travel on the ground and venue hire - to name a few. I'll be paying for this stuff myself.

So it would be really nice if you would consider chucking a buck or two my way,

I would appreciate it so very much. Genuinely, every dollar makes me wanna cry (in a good way.)  If you can help me out a little, I'd really appreciate it. If not, that is cool too, I hope you have an awesome day either way, and think you should give someone you like or love a hug 'cause that will make you feel nice.

K. Thanks.

Freya

WE BLIMIN' MADE IT

17/06/2014 at 2:02 PM

Hello Glorious Triumphant Pledgers and Supporters,

A massive THANK YOU to all of you who pledged, shared and put up with my desperate posts on Facebook and other various social media outlets. It was all worth it because we reached the target!

It's really hard doing a thing like this on your own, but with your help I'm not alone. I couldn't have done it without you and your credit card details. So thank you so very much, from the bottom of my chemically-imbalanced frontal lobe.

I'll be sorting out all of your rewards systematically. If you selected "Oi What A High Roller Oi" please note that if you would like it, I will sort out a special throne for you to come and view 'Home' in Auckland, Tauranga or Wellington. Just let me know if you are keen on this added bonus when I get in touch soon.

The Home Storybook went to the printers today and it's looking totally awesome, so that's exciting.

In the meantime, if you would like to keep up to date with my warm up tour of the North Island and the Australia tour, please follow these fine links and follow/like/favourite/share at you pleasurely leisure. Or leisurely pleasure?

Once again a huge thank you, your generosity and kindness has been incredible.

Love, Freya

Another added bonus, the best anti-depressants anyone could hope for - Jed and Finn. They say thank you, too.

Only $400 to go!

Hey Pledgers and Followers!

Thank you so much for your support so far. I cannot believe the number of pledges that have flooded in in the last 24 hours, nor can I believe the astounding generosity. Y'all are making me weepy!

There is still $400 left to raise in the next eight hours, and if I don't reach the target I won't get any funds for my show - so I will request one last thing of you: SHARE! Share the campaign on Facebook, email your friends, tweet up a storm, tumble all over tumblr, tell your workmates, tell that pigeon that tries to steal your late lunch (I have a suspicion that pigeons are actually extremely wealthy philanthropists) - whatever it is, please help me get the word out so we can get over that line!

For your efforts you will get a prize.

Thanks again so much, you are more beautiful than Beyoncé on her birthday.

Freya

GayNZ article!

Hello Pledgers and Followers!

GayNZ.com did a little article on the show and the Pledge Me campaign to get it to Australia. Guess I'll never be friends with Vladimir Putin now. I think I can cope. Please feel free to share the article with your friends on your social networks to spread the word - only 11 days to go now, with $335 raised so far!

Thanks so much for your support. You are seriously cool - tell your mum, she'll be proud.
