Collab Project with The Basement

The Basement is a home for Auckland’s most adventurous emerging artists.

THE PRODUCTION

The Dom Post called it "an exceptionally strong production" and now The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later have the opportunity to tour to Auckland's BASEMENT THEATRE from the 28 August - 8 September 2012! We have 8 beautiful actors, stunning design and a play worth seeing.

THE LARAMIE PROJECT 10 YEARS LATER is the epilogue to the iconic LARAMIE PROJECT. Edited together from interviews within the community of Laramie, Wyoming following the murder of Matthew Shepherd in an apparant hate crime. The epilogue is 100% verbatim with 8 of Wellington's finest actors playing a multitude of roles, from cops to priests, mothers to criminals. Heartfelt, humorous and provoking - TLP:10 is a work that calls for talk about social change towards prejudice, violence and intolerance.

The story belongs to Laramie, but its message is Universal.

ALACRITY PRODUCTIONS is a collective of professionally trained theatre artists brought together by the desire to make work that focusses on the voice of the community we are performing for. The company uses performance and entertainment to ask social and culturally relevant questions of its audience in order to spark debate and further questioning. We are committed to developing work that is sustainable in the present climate and continue to push boundaries in form, purpose and growing of the audience-performer relationship.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Alacrity Productions is enlisting 8 professional actors and 4 crew members - graduates from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School and people who've worked in the industry for years.
We want to make sure these people are getting paid to help them deliver a wonderful show.

The aim is to raise $333.33 per week for each member, working full time for three and a half weeks. This is a grand total of $14000!

We are asking our PledgeMe friends to help us raise $5,500 towards this end goal.

In a precarious industry this money will mean all the difference to a committed theatre maker.
