2014 World Rafting Championships - We Are Your NZ U23 Mens Team
Project 2014-04-30 21:30:51 +1200
Kia Ora koutou katoa, we are Tāne Toa, the NZ U23 Mens Rafting Team and we are excited of the prospect of travelling to Brazil later on this year to represent our country in the world white water rafting championship events.
This is us last year at the 2013 World Rafting champs held here in godzone (Kawerau, Bay of Plenty). This is the first time NZ has opened the doors to include U23 teams and U19 teams. We trained hard, we had no coach, we had conflicting schedules, some of us are "fresh as" and had never been in a raft before.....and we came out bronze medalists in the slalom and 5th overall in the world.
#UltraEcstaticWithOurResult

1st race: Sprint (time trial)
1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th (which we were) was ALL WITHIN less than 1 second of each other
...ooooh, the competition is rife right from the get go!
2nd race: Slalom
Again a very close finish for the top 4 teams, and this time we just "pipped" the Japanese
for 3rd place and a bronze medal.
Our bronze medal ceremony
SO NOW TO 2014
To travel abroad is an opportunity of a lifetime and we need your tautoko (support) to help us get there. As you can probably appreciate there is a significant amount of money required to go to Brazil for any world champs and we are well on our way to fundraising towards our campaign; however at this point we are in need of a training raft as we are at the mercy of others to kind of "beg-borrow-and steal" whatever we can get our hands on.
We have had good support so far, however 'to beat the Brazilians on their home turf' requires us to have a training raft of our own' so we can get out of the water and go hard close to every day of the week. Therefore we are petitioning the generousity of the NZ community to pledge towards our purchase of a safety approved R6 or R4 raft from Incept Marine (a NZ owned and operated business).
We hope you can help this bunch of misfits take hold of their dreams and "run it up the guts". Thanks for your time and consideration, we are a lively bunch of Rotorua local boys; your Maori heroes some might say (even our Pakeha brothers), with a passion for white water rafting and the outdoors.
Kia Ora ano and thanks for your support :) Tāne Toa: over and out!
