Hi All! I've written a play...
ONE HILL OF A FIGHT - Being the astonishing true story of skulduggery, love and earthworks in depression era New Zealand.
This play is based on historical records and features the relativley unknown Captain Rupert Worley. We focus on two eras - his monumental activities as Hamilton Borough Engineer in the 1930s, and his time in the Light Railway Corps at the Western Front during the First World War.
WHAT'S NEEDED
The play is complete to third draft, and has had an extremely successful readthru to a select group, including descendants of the main characters. All it needs now is a PERFORMANCE! This pledge is for funds to attract a professional director and professional actors to the roles so that ONE HILL OF A FIGHT can be told with the pride and passion it warrants.
ABOUT THE MAIN CHARACTER
Rupert Worley was the borough engineer behind much of Hamilton's modern development; he removed Garden Place Hill against much opposition; he constructed the city reservior atop Ruakiwi Hill; he was behind the construction of Fairfield Bridge; he worked tirelessly to lower the railway lines that crossed the centre of town. During the war, he ran the NZ Light Railway Corps behind the Ypres Salient, supplying between one and two thousand tons of ammunition a night to the front under incredibly difficult circumstances. Worley Place in Hamilton is named after Rupert Worley, but he deserves to be better known throughout New Zealand.
Although historical, this story was never more relevant than now. It is a true-blue Kiwi tale of passion, ambition, council politics and heroism.
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Michael Switzer has worked as a playwright, director, producer and actor for over ten years. His plays include 10 pocket pantomimes for children and 7 full length plays including Booom! The Miser of Mystery Creek, Atonal Heart, and rewritten versions of An Italian Straw Hat, The Imaginary Invalid and She Stoops To Conquer (The New Zealand Version).
ABOUT THE PLEDGE TARGET
Getting a play on stage takes a lot of time, a lot of skill and a lot of effort. Then triple that to make it good. The total pledge amount is therefore high. This target means we can attract fantastic talent to the play and present a play that everyone will be proud of.
Assuming we make this Pledge Target, production will go ahead in Hmailton in mid/late 2015 with a two week season.
Please pledge generously (although every little bit helps)!!! Please pass this on to others who might support this cause. And even for reading this far, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.

Hi there, followers of ONE HILL OF A FIGHT. The closing time is now upon us and I have to say it does not look like we will make it. We are tens of thousands away. However, thank you for your support. I honestly am pleased that some person felt the scheme was worth backing - and for there to be a couple of people I do not know personally is especially humbling. Thank you one and all. Anyway, your bank accounts live to fight another day and I will reconsider my options for getting the play produced. Cheers, Michael

Hi All,
It may be that you do not know me, or the quality of my work, or the attractions of this play. In that case please feel free to contact SARAH NATHAN, the CEO of CREATIVE WAIKATO. She was one of the people who was privileged to be at the redthru.
She's on holiday for the first bit, but after that, she'll be more than happy to give her opinion of the worthiness of the project. Thanks Sarah!!
