Collab Project with Smart Energy Challenge

Wellington City Council is teaming up with some of Wellington's brightest social entrepreneurs from Enspiral, Generation Zero and PledgeMe, to bring local Smart Energy projects to life. They've joined forces to find and support community-led projects designed to reduce energy use and increase clean energy in Wellington. Wellington City Council will match dollar for dollar the target amount of each successful project. This means that every dollar you pledge towards these projects will turn into two dollars! Let's get smart energy humming in Wellington.

Change the way you move.  It’s as easy as clicking “pledge.”

shyft is ready to bring Wellington a new relationship with the car.

shyft is a carshare co-op that will place cars around the city for you to hire for $15 per hour(or less!). Just book online, swipe into your local shyft car and off you go! No hassles like WOF, insurance or visits to the mechanic. It saves you heaps of time and money, plus you don’t even pay for petrol!

As an added bonus there are the environmental benefits. Carshare members across the globe have seen reductions of as much as 50% in their emissions. Also, every shyft car in Wellington can do the hard work of up to 30 cars. That means you can get rid of the beater, saving car parks, saving money, and saving energy used to produce cars.

We haven’t picked where the car will go yet. Why? We don’t know what suburb is keenest for a carshare.

So it’s as simple as this.  The suburb that bands together and raises the most money gets the first car. The  suburb that bands together with the most donors gets the second car. And so on…Remember to enter your address when you pledge so we can keep track!

We’re Wellingtonians and we think this is perfect for our fair city. While putting together shyft, we looked at the thousand or so carshares around  the world for inspiration, and combined the best ideas to create the best possible setup that will fit with  the ethos and needs of Wellington.

We think New Zealanders are forced to spend too much on their cars (around 10% of our budgets) and we want to make it a little easier to get access to a car. We’re also mega-concerned with climate change. So why not buy some sexy cars and help replace old, busted ones with ones that are safe, fuel efficient and high tech.

Cheaper, better, and saving the planet? We’re all about that and hope you are too! Hit pledge and let’s build a better City together.

A third of the way there - but who gets the car?

15/04/2014 at 10:04 PM

Hello shyft pledgers!

What an unbelievable week we've had! We began it with an inkling of hope, a great idea, and - well - not much else.

Today we crossed $5000 in pledges, 1/3 of the way to our goal. But how we will make the next milestone? We need your help! Whether its passing the link along to a few friends or sharing it around your social networks - every little bit helps us get one step closer to our goal.

So to all you pledgers - thanks! And let's keep rollin'!

A quick ranking update on the suburb shyftstakes to get the car with the highest number of donors(we can't access donation values yet):

Aro Valley    (T - 1st)
Te Aro         (T - 1st)
Oriental Bay (T - 2nd)
Mt Cook       (T - 2nd)
Roseneath
Karori
Berhampore
Seatoun
Island Bay
Berhampore
Newtown
Brooklyn
Moa Point
Kelburn

With the top four places occupied by tight contests there is some work to do if you want the car to end up in your suburb. Find a few friends, tell a neighbor, or just share it round. One way or another, you'll be helping get a car in your suburb!

As an added bonus, because of you guys we've been featured in news across the city - and even the country:

- Dominion Post: http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/business/9915927/Wellington-crowd-funding-sought-for-public-cars

- Idealog: www.idealog.co.nz/blog/2014/04/carsharing-scheme-shyft-sets-sights-wellington-launch

- Nelson Mail: http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/news/9921085/Car-sharing-big-boost-to-economy

So cheers to you all. Raise a glass. Spread the word.

With many, many thanks,
The shyft team
